I googled. Yeah crazy she only won Best New Artist and Best Female Vocals.

I mentioned in another thread that The Weeknd doesn't put too much stock into the Grammys. Black artists should follow suit.
because they legit did him dirty without it even being about the music.

The majority of this country is white. What y'all expecting? Tell me why I should be mad about this, especially given Beyonce, who this topic is about, doesn't make artistic, relevant, classic albums besides arguably Lemonade. Beyonce ain't no Janis Joplin or Aretha Franklin. She isn't even a Lauryn Hill or Stevie Nicks. She's not fukking with Heart or Diana Ross. She's mid as an artist. But I'm supposed to be mad because Jay is using his wife and platform to drum up social issues so his family can benefit?:what:
Thread was not about Beyonce. I actually created it after I learned that Mariah didn't have one but I know Beyonce has been a topic as of late too so I feel you.

Why do the black celebs covet that award so much? Who cares about this white man trophy. Are you rich? Are you widely beloved? What you also need the white man pointing at you and saying wow also?
every artist seeks validation. Money and love come and go. When you die, if you got a Grammy, you're known as "Grammy Award Winning (your name)." Anyone who says otherwise is a liar.

Because winning the award opens up many financial doors that you otherwise wouldn't have access to in most cases. Plus, you also get your name written in the history books of music.

Mariah has six Grammys according to Google. Does she have any actual album of the year tier albums? Because I don't see Mariah as that kind of artist that I'd put in the same pile as Radiohead or Lauryn Hill. And by the way, you can't put this as solely as a race thing. A band as renown as Radiohead has NEVER won AOTY at the Grammys despite the fact albums like OK Computer are classics and defined an era of their genre.

The self-titled album, Lemonade, and Renaissance were no brainers

Look at the nominations for 1998 AOTY.

They expose themselves as old. Bob Dylan won. Every music head that knows music knows that the best albums of 97 were Life After Death and OK Computer. They were the most innovative, historical, and most played albums of their genres.

Look at this fukking list. It's a popularity contest. I love The Beatles and Paul McCartney but what the fukk is he doing up there? None of Paul's solo albums are on that kind of tip and he made among the worst solo albums of the The Beatles. John and George best him by a mile.

I'm not saying racism doesn't have a place, but if y'all know anything about music (and I mean more than rap) you'll know just absolutely bonkers these nominations are regardless of
color. NO ONE talks about these albums except OK Computer in the year 2023.

Some newer artists seem to believe the Grammy's will help establish their careers (dubious). The wealthy and well-established Black artists should absolutely avoid this racist show at all costs. No performances, no endorsements, no attendance or acknowledgement. Beyonce and Jay-Z keep getting played.

I'll be honest with you, I don't really care about prestigious white artist whom have never won it. But to answer your question, Mariah definitely has great albums. Any of her 1st 3 albums were great.

Also, we know that album quality doesnt always equate to AotY win. Taylor won this year and this is her weakest album of the year win. Especially when everyone knows SZA should've won. Matter of fact, Taylor was the weakest nominee. Every other nominee had better albums. But Taylor had the bigger year all things considered. So we see that grammy voters don't just take album quality only into consideration.

If that's the case, Mariah should atleast have one.

You can’t put 2024 shyt on the history of music lol. Stick to now. Back in the day the competition was fierce. You might’ve had one artist killing the gane at points, but other artists were considered icons then too. Who are our icons now? People barely even care about music now. I don’t know how Taylor blew up like she did and how she’s maintaining it, but we are in the Taylor era apparently :yeshrug: I mean there’s plenty artists that are getting some of these current stars out of here musically, they ain’t getting invited to the Grammys though. Every year around Grammy time. People stay saying “fukk the Grammys” while also being mad at who won or lost a Grammy. The go clown the BET awards or pretty much any black awards show. It’s sickening now.
