You can't assert "raising the min wage doesn't hurt businesses", then say "raising it that high will hurt businesses".
What proponents need to do is clearly state what kind of raise they are talking about. Otherwise you open the door to this extremely tired argument...

10 dollars an hour is very low for San Jose. I'd say that, at minimum, someone needs a per capita income of 80K to survive out here.

You know how out of touch with reality you are? You just described "survival" as over double the per capita income in San Jose of $33,770.

I don't see minimum wage as being the standard of a "living" wage.

I never have.

I see it as a protection against ultimate exploitation, not a demand for companies to subsidize all aspect of their employees lives.

WE ALL understand how walmart passes costs on to consumers and underpays its workers...but why not pressure walmart to pay its people more, not ask the government to set price floors?

if $15 dollars/hr subsidizes all aspects of anyone's life then it is no big deal to take some income from upper tier employees since all aspects of their lives is superfluously covered by their outlandish salaries.
