I was through with Mangini when he had Lynch coverage Larry Fitzgerald in the slot

That's gonna be hard to do, that dude keeps getting hurt. We gotta get a better backup than Martin though, there's no way we can afford another year with that bust as the the n°2 option at that position

We don't have much choice, Martin is going to stay, like I said there are no viable free agent centers. We're going to have to draft one in the midrounds. Maybe Max Tuerk (I know another USC guy ) or Ryan Kelly. We're in no position to be cutting centers. Cutting Joe Looney bit us in the ass.

But if you look at the defense as a whole as the season went on it got better from a coverage standpoint. When Lynch got hurt we had no pass rush at all but our corners were doing ok. Ward low key was playing really good and so was Johnson and Brock. Acker started off good but fizzled out a lil bit. We need someone who can come off the edge and wreck shyt so we don't have a lot of stress on our corners. We need Bosa. I don't care how we get him but we need to.

I think we don't realize how young our defense is as a whole, and how many new players got heavy burn. I expect the defense to stabilize some next year, more so as we add more talent. Since we're not getting Mike Vrabel, we may as well give Mangini one more year and see what he can do.

I didn't even consider him. I like what he did with the Jets defenses and I though he got a raw deal in Cleveland.

Jason Tarver, Don Martindale under consideration for 49ers DC job

The San Francisco 49ers reportedly learned on Thursday that Houston Texans linebackers coach Mike Vrabel declined their offer to become defensive coordinator. Vrabel is viewed as an up-and-coming coach, so some folks were disappointed in the news. Others not as much given Vrabel's lack of significant coaching experience, but either way, the 49ers are moving on.

On Friday, Albert Breer tweeted that 49ers outside linebackers coach Jason Tarver and Ravens linebackers coach Don Martindale are both under consideration for the position. Eric Mangini spoke with Kelly last week, and he is the only other name connected to the position aside from Vrabel.


There is no doubt the defensive coordinator position is important under Chip Kelly. It's important for most coaches, but Chip Kelly's focus on offense, and use of fast-paced offense adds even more pressure to the position. It is not the end of the world, but it is a fact worth acknowledging. It is believed that Vrabel was able to turn this interview and job offer into a raise in Houston. He can build on two solid years, and odds are very good he will get more interviews next offseason. And worst case, he is likely a strong candidate to eventually succeed Romeo Crennel if he chooses to wait.

Kelly seems lukewarm on Kap. Every time Kap was mentioned he kept bringing up Blaine. Didn't really big up Kap. Like Harbs did Alex when he was first hired. Kelly is probably not as high on Kap as we initially thought
