Happens in every profession..its happened to me

I dont like it either. @K-Apps just posted they made the decision back in May...that says to me that they didnt expect Vaughn to be that good :mjpls:..didnt really give him a chance and had to overpay to keep him on
Being one of two Black men in my department, I had the misfortune years back of being let go after a private equity firm acquisition, after surviving the two prior acquisitions. After my departure, the lone other Black guy in my department trained a 25 y/o white girl, 15 years his junior, for 6 months and they made her his boss. They bumped his salary up too to placate him, but dude is walking around that office nutless.

The more things change.... :mjpls:

To keep the Nash story secret I guess. Wouldn't surprise me if they told Vaughn from the jump, and the "interview" was a thank you for his work in the bubble and his offer to be an assistant with the big pay rise.
Exactly....walking in the arena nutless. :manny:

I’m disappointed it wasn’t Vaughn as well but someone in the other thread made a great point—if he was hired as the head coach with Nash as his assistant he would’ve been looking over his shoulder the entire time. Soon as the team went on a 3 game losing streak the chatter about Nash taking over would’ve started. It might be better this way

That definitely would have happened.

Let the team even start off slow that would be the news

Just finished listening to Marks on the Woj pod:

  • Nash reached out and expressed interest in the job over the summer
  • Tsai and Marks felt like the team needed a “conductor” to help bring everyone together
  • Nash personally asked for Vaughn to be on his staff
  • Alluded to Nash and Vaughn coaching together as a team
  • Says the players personally asked for a “communicator” and someone they can trust on/off the court
Reading between the lines this hire had much less to do with X’s and O’s and was really about having someone who could manage a team. I could easily see that being something Kenny struggled with...especially when guys started complaining about DeAndre not starting.

So basically they feel confident in Vaughn being the brains of the operation while Nash handles the interpersonal stuff. The optics aren’t the greatest but it doesn’t sound like a bad idea, in Marks we trust.

Everyone has said all the right things today, Vaughn getting passed up before he even really had a shot sucks, but he's being given a pretty significant role based on this. If Nash can translate his on-court abilities along with the "conductor" then we might hit the jackpot. This is basically what we tried with Kidd, but Kidd's an a$$hole who isn't well liked. At least we got the likable guy part right this time.

Only time will tell, and its still going to come down to KD and Kyrie's health over anything. If they're healthy we could pick a fan off the streets to coach each night and win 50 games.
