I don't know about yall but that '00s era was better in terms of str8 spittin & emceeing.

'90s lyricists made better music tho, but in fairness, a lot of those '90s albums wouldn't be released the way they were in the 2000s. it'd be a bunch of formulaic records sprinkled in, while some(or most) of their better stuff would be relegated to mixtapes.

Smh yall stay trying to change history...

how so?

this is a poll thread. make use of your vote and make better use of your posts.

meanwhile, you can just go to the 1st page and see some threads where theyre really trying to rewrite history. no poll or nothing. just bold titles with a bunch of stans dappin each other up in the threads.

but my chit is what gets called out and labeled as changing history? man kick rocks.:rudy:

gonna ruffle a lot of feathers, but 2pac would've got slayed f*ckin around with them 2000s east coast rappers.

yes, I know the beef really wasn't on no east/west chit. it was really supposed to be just certain people, but I'm just saying.

I disagree because I felt like punch lines are not as lyrical or 'nice' as some people want to make them out to be. Not to mention so many doing their best Jay-z renditions.

theres no such thing as a jay-z rendition.
you do realize that jay bit all his so-called signature styles off of other rappers, right?

I am very aware of Jay-z biting the whisper flow off the Young Gunz.....that still doesn't change the fact people were trying to do the Jay-z, over the top money/fly shyt.

These two videos sum up my personal feelings of 90s concepts/story telling vs 2000s battle raps/punch line raps...

vs

Both good songs, I just think that concepts take more effort than battle raps.

Lyrical talent doesn't equate to great diss records, Ice Cube is probably the GOAT diss maker ever and hes not an upper echelon lyricist. Real Muthafukkin Gs, Hit Em Up, Back Down etc..are better than any tracks that nikkas like Lloyd Banks,Canibus,Eminem and whoever else you wanna throw in have ever made. Even a track like Ether was simplistic and to the point with no spiritual lyrical metaphor shyt going on.

it goes way deeper than just biting young chris flow breh. and since when is over-the-top money/fly shyt a credit to jay?:wtf:

that's a TERRIBLE example breh. GRINDIN is your prime example? that song wasn't even popular for the lyrics. it was about the beat and the way they rode it. in fact, a lot of people didn't even look at the clipse as being nice like that until people heard more of their tracks. and even then, they weren't seen as top spitters.

and the 2000s was more than just punchline raps. just about all those guys are more than one-trick ponies. they could do all the '90s chit too, including the concepts & story-telling that you listed.

true.

but the point is, the 2000s guys could make great diss tracks AND be lyrical.

the '90s east coast rappers had trouble with that, and got styled on.

and that includes nas. Ether was a fluke record. all his other diss tracks range from meh to trash.
