First time was when they appeared on Raw. It was the Raw when Sabu dived off the old Raw blocks. I was 13 years old at the time. I had a cousin who lived in Baltimore who used to watch it and would tell me about it and would send me vhs tapes of it from like 1995 and 1996. I was intrigued because it was more violent and they played music from rock artists and rap artists. At the time I lived in Dallas and we didn't any channels that would show it.
When we got internet access in late 1998/early 1999 I would post on various wrestling message boards and they would talk about it. Then they announced they would debut on TNN. I was like TNN?!
I was a sophomore in high school at the time and played football but the night it was going to debuted I wanted to rush home from practice that night so I could watch it but I wasn't impressed. It wasn't the ECW I watched on vhs tape. Eventually one of the local channels in Dallas started playing Hardcore TV late Sunday night/early Monday morning but this was when ECW was dying. Justin Credible was getting the mega push, Lance Storm and Mike Awesome went to WCW, Taz went to the WWF, etc.
I can't watch ECW on the network because they don't have the original music. I had a bunch of tapes from 90s ECW, WWF, and WCW but my mom threw them away when I went off to college. I asked her why she did that and she said you stopped watching wrestling so I figured you didn't want them anymore. This was around summer 2003 which I did stop watching but l now I wish she didn't because there was some gems on there that aren't on the network.
