If you didnt feel the energy in the air and the music that came out around that time......dunno what to tell u. HipHop had peaked.

It's like someone telling you about Pearl Jam and u trying to tell them about Jimi Hendrix.

During that 02-05 it got waaaay dumbed down, super c00nish and the singing from people who can't sing LAWD. U also had Mike Jones.

i grew up on it.

that dirty south stuff i wouldn't listen to in the whip, but the club? sh!t still pops, like lil jon and david banner and yin yang twins. lol i'm playin i got new subs and burned the sh!t outta them cd's. bass was crazy.

i listened to dip set in the whip too and wished i was a member of the dips back then. lol.

lookin back, a lot of it is trash though.

u r starting to see what classics really came from then though.

the fact that mike jones was the most buzzin artist during one of those years was pathetic. he had like a 2 Chainz type buzz for no reason. also he started that dumb shyt of repeating the same line 4 times in a row when it aint even that hot :beli:

:snoop: at folks actin like 'back then they didnt want me now im hot they all on me' was some lyrical genius shyt

lol!

so many ppl found it so annoying, but other ppl loved it. it was like, one or the other. it ain't lyrical genius. it was just relatable.

STILL TIPPIN put me on mike jones though. even though slim had my fav verse. i may just put that sh!t in the top 20 verses on my list.

The end of the Rocafella era was dope......You could tell Dame was signing a bunch of artist because Jay was on his way toward retiring....thus we got the emergence of Kanye, Dipset, State Property. Rocafella was killing it from 02-05

The South started to emerge....Lil Jon, Ying Yang Twins, Scrappy, created club classics

Nas made his come back..

This was kinda like the mix tape era....gunit was killing it with tapes, dip set, jada & styles were killing it, Lil wayne's squad up tapes, the drought, a bunch of shyt......It's sad tho because around 04 you started to see less DJ mixtapes and more whole artist tapes

Looking back it was dope but yeah nothing will ever match the 90s.
but yeah Ja Rule and Nelly were weak spots

A few good albums here and there, but overall trash. Nothing will ever touch the 92-98 era

Those were my college years right there.

Me too.

I was listening to Doom, Deltron 3030, and Duck Down was making a resurgence, This when underground Hip-Hop wasn't corny yet? :ahh:

I was also heavy heavy into the D&B and Darkwave scene. And rediscovering my love for NIN, Garbage, Massive Attack, and Tricky.

Best time of the decade, especially around '03-04 or so.

A lot of music to enjoy... not a whole lot of great albums, but definitely memorable songs. It was about the last time I could tolerate the radio. And the #1 shyt was mixtapes. Those were definitely better than most of what was happening on radio and TV.

There's a lotta shyt I hated too tho', so it kinda blew me and made me unable to really really enjoy it. But filtering all that stuff out, the good music was :datazz:

I think 02'-05' put out some fun music.

Yep... I started souring around '05, even tho' that year had some good albums.

One thing I'll say about that time is that it got me out of that "hip-hop ain't what it used to be" mindset and just allowed me to enjoy the good stuff that was coming out. I was on that vibe for a couple years (starting around '99), but DJing in clubs around '02-'03 had me like :ahh:

Now when it got around '06-'07, I was DEFINITELY in "fukk that new shyt" mode... and I still stand by that. shyt took a major downturn around that time. I was DJin' then too and still was like :scusthov:

That was the only way you could enjoy it because it was fun but it was starting take a turn in a different direction. I didn't go into "get off my lawn" mode until about 07'-08' myself.
