Can anyone explain the difference between Superman vs Action Comics and Batman vs Detective Comics?
They're just different books about those characters. Usually there is some variances in story type; for example Detective focuses more on mystery whereas Batman is more an action title.

Thank you!

Universe reboots, parallel universe characters, a billion different authors remaking interpretations of the same ass characters etc. shyt is CORNY and lazy.

This crap is why Japanese manga will forever be >>>>> than american comics. With manga it forces authors to have a vision to deliver a story and develop characters to an actual conclusion. The stories have overarching themes and character growth that would get wiped away in some wack reboot if it were in america.

And whats worse is you got so many hands in the pot when it comes to these characters that the superheroes are more general ideas/archtypes than fleshed out actual characters. Like the only reason people people give credibility to superman in Superman vs goku debates is because one hack writer out of the dozens who've made Superman comics wrote the shyt like a episode of looney toons. :heh: some people write batman campy and goofy some write him dark and gritty. Nobody can claim who's the true batman tho

The only thing good about rebooting/universe shyt is seeing superheroes fight to the death against characters they normally wouldnt.

That's literally what is reinvigorating them and keeping the business alive tho :russ:

You could invent a new Superman everytime you want to deviate but you'd just end up with a bunch of clones. I'll take the 52 Earths and the occasional Crisis/Secret War events :feedme:

I like event shyt over regular run of the mill storylines. Crossovers are like the ALLSTAR WEEKEND for comics:wow:

Pretty sure OP ain’t a comic head. Elseworlds/Multiverse is a great concept. It gives writers freedom to do things to characters that normally can’t be done with the main universe character.

And I don’t know what creating new characters has to do with this. People go by name recognition/favorites when deciding what to read. If you mean new characters taking up another character’s mantle, it’s been done before.

Also, Lethal Protector and POTS were both in the same universe using Eddie Brock Venom.

It's a way to justify why time never seems to move.

Just one cataclysmic event after another.

Marvel 616 is hell

I can't really explain Action and Superman but Detective Comics mainly was Batman doing detective stuff and mystery whereas Batman was more about the action and adventure aspect. The lines pretty much blurred over the decades where they were pretty much identical but since Rebirth Detective has been Batman and the Bat Family(Batwoman, Tim Drake, Spoiler) whereas Batman is strictly a Batman solo.

I get what your saying OP but you do have to remember a lot of these characters are over 50 years old. In the case of Batman, Superman, and Captain America they're over 70 years old. Almost every story you can think of has been written about these cats over the decades so have multiple versions and alternate universe versions keeps things a little fresh.

It's one reason why I don't have a problem if a company does a total reboot/reset every 20-30 years. These characters never really progress. Peter Parker will always be the struggling 20 something year old that can never catch a break. He can't be married and have a family. Cyclops can't "graduate" and be a family man and have somewhat of a normal life. Batman can never be happy, etc.

Even when writers try to make a significant change by either killing someone off and replacing them or having a hero retire and pass the torch to someone else fans will whine and eventually the status quo returns. Jean Grey was dead for nearly 15 years but now she's back again. :francis:

If they wanted Spider-Man to be single and broke they really could've just killed off Mary Jane and Aunt May during Civil War...and have Peter try to put his life back together after the deaths of his loved ones and everybody knowing he is Spider-Man...

But instead they had the literal fukking devil undo any character progression he had...

I much rather see a character progress than to stay the same...

That's why I fukked with Spider-Girl...shyt changed...

How many stories can you tell about a single White guy from Queens with Spider powers...

I remember they gave Spider-Man some sort of supernatural element to his powers than they changed that shyt...:stopitslime:

At the end of the day, it is make-believe. :yeshrug:

There are rules, but there are no rules.

There is continuity, but there is no continuity.

Maybe this is why comic books are a niche-market.

For someone new or a casual fan of characters outside of the medium (film, tv, cartoons, etc.), this sh*t would be confusing.
