The Game of Thrones reference (and I feel like the somewhat silliness of that whole sequence in general) was them trying to lighten the tone due to criticisms of taking themselves too seriously. I think Caleb's character will serve to take the edge off of Dolores' extremist views towards humans since they were also criticized for painting a bleak view of humanity last season. I'm at the point I'm afraid that if they fukk things up, it's going to be because they're trying to please everyone instead of doing what they want to do.
