I think he can explode, physically, he is just scared to. He's always tryna squeak by and steal rounds.

physical technique is easier to fix then mental hurdles

hes afraid to be aggressive because he doesnt believe in himself

and why would he believe in himself, his standup is horrible

thats a wrap for any fighter

I wonder what was the date they fired Chandella... :lupe:
Phil Davis might of lost all his will to fight when that happened
:wow:

I remember when he couldn't strike at all. Now he strikes more than wrestles... which is probably a bad thing for him cause his wrestling was getting him in position to submit and finish fights.
He is definately a better striker now.

He tries to wrestle but his TDs are mediocre. Phil has a very solid ground game, it's just that he has trouble getting the fight to the ground against fighters with good TDD. If his striking was decent, then he would be able to set up TDs with his strikes. Unfortunately, his striking is awkward and just flat out bad. This makes it a lot more difficult for him to get the fight to the mat.

Yeah he needs to figure out a way to use his ground game. His clinch is ok also. Its when he is dancing around chasing ppl or being chased that he loses fights. And he is doing that more and more.:scust:

I read a very interesting post online regarding Phil. The person was like Phil is not meant to be a fighter. And I'm like damn, that's very true. He's not willing to get hit at all (doesn't react well to getting hit), he doesn't take any risks, is not confident in his abilities (mainly his striking), he doesn't go out there to win (and win decisively), he's content with just scraping by, etc.

Does Phil ever sit down on his punches? A lot of times he'll will be moving out of his opponent's way (getting himself off balance) while throwing a strike. He does this so he won't get countered. But as a result, he puts like no power behind his punches.

Weidman is easily a better wrestler than Tavares/Kennedy/Brunson though. He would have the wrestling advantage against Yoel.

Romero is a world class wrestler whos medal in the Olympics and other competitions. He holds numerous wins over camel Sanderson the so called greatest collegiate wrestler ever. Weidman isnt even on his level

Breh I know all that. But, this is MMA and from what I've seen from both fighters, Weidman is the better (and more proven) MMA wrestler.

I dont think so. I havent seen weidman completely dominate someone with his wrestling like Romero did with Tavares and to a lesser extent Kennedy. I've even seen him struggle with TD (Lawler fight, first silva fight, later part of machida fight when he gassed)

Weidman would ragdoll Tavares too. Weidman was 1/1 with TDs in the Lawlor fight.. Both Anderson and Machida have great TDD, especially Machida (who has some of the best TDD in MMA).

Rampage averaged more PPV buys than Chuck. Jones PPV numbers are on the low side, but you have to take into account PPV numbers are down considerably from before.
playing simba who often got confused by big words :rudy: he was also lucky to have entered during the boom whilst Chuck was on his way out.

Only person Weidman has face with great TDD is machIda. Silva is average and the rest are trash. He was like 2 for 6 or something like that against Lawlor Kennedy and Tavares have great TDD and Romero worked them savagely. Anyway the point is both of them have great wrestling but ill give the slight edge to romero if they fight

:comeon: Silva has good TDD. Check fightmetric, he was 1/1 in TDs against Lawlor. Munoz has pretty decent TDD too.

i dont think hes not meant to be a fighter, he doesnt have a goto move which most above average fighters fall back on

hes not confident because nothing he does is above average except his wrestling but his take downs are average

i think a camp change is needed but you see how much jones has improved over the years, phil really hasnt changed
