But the Senate trial is still under oath, and everything said is testimony. Putting shyt on the record in black and white will force the Republicans to truly take a stand. Right now, they can simply dismiss everything out of hand. If there is some real, irrefutable evidence of malfeasance that comes out, they can't do that. Exactly, it's political. If they vote to acquit in spite of damning evidence, that can be used against them in the future.
