Just caught up on the first part of this show over the weekend.

Cinematography is just :whoo:, with Jude Law wondering through the woods and especially the shot of the causeway he has to travel to in order to get off the island. Show is really good at being unsettling, with not being sure exactly what is going on with his mental state and the way everyone is acting.

The creepily nice bartender is really good in his role.

The ending of episode 3 was a mixture of :merchant: and :mjcry: for me.

That reveal at the end of episode 4 seems so obvious in hindsight but is going to make the wait for the next episode unbearable:mjcry:
Funny, I thought the reveal at the end was too much (and should have been saved for the next ep) since the other clues were so obvious.

Sam mentioned multiple times that he had two daughters and a son.

We never clearly saw Sam's son but the daughters are mixed (and they even had that old woman literally remark on that and make reference to their father being white).

Constant mentions of how tough a year they have had and her recent money problems, both being tied to Sam disappearing with the money and their business being in shambles at the time it happened.

And the biggest tell, her overreaction to Larry talking to Ellie. She's insanely overprotective because of what happened to their son.

And it seems the constantly hinted at division of the island might be a result of still lingering conflict over who should be the Father of the island, Sam or his son. Either that or there's conflict over Jess' child (who is also Sam's child) and their role on the island.

The second they did the reveal, all of those clues popped in my head, hence the obvious part. I think the dramatic shift in perspective had me wondering when Sam would be reintroduced while never realizing there had to be some connected reason to introduce these ladies in the first place. I was concentrating on what tragedy had befallen them and why the mom was so hesitant to tell the true reason they were on the island that I stopped thinking about Sam.

I'll admit I was triggered because of the special live event. I kept theorizing about some elements brought up regarding Jess' character and her relationship to Sam, in particular the fact she has two daughters on the island while Sam explicitly mentioned he had two daughters and a son, the latter now being with him on the island. I kept thinking about his two daughters so things immediately clicked when this ep started.

I wish I was aware there was an event. Had no idea until I saw you talking about it earlier, and it sounds like it was the epitome of fukkery:mjlol:. I've been hooked on this show from episode 1.

You can still watch it on HBO's Facebook page. It's uploaded in two parts. You can skip through most of it to be honest.

Yeah, seeing the title of the episode and the mixed kids from jump had me l:gladbron:

Episode had me :martin: a number of times, even if she has alternative reasons for being there aside from holiday :skip:.

1st time you get turned away and told to leave :ld:

2nd time :hubie:

Wondering around abandoned housing developments with those 2 little girls :what:

I am curious how everything will link up, as I expect the daughter's birthday to come into play :patrice:

Each ep has been one day. Ellie's birthday is on the third day. Definitely some connection there.

Legit had the :dwillhuh:at the reveal.

Was waiting on Sam to turn up on some Messiah shyt, not even thinking that that could be his family. Even when someone told her that the father must be white, never put it together.
