I’d say a loose sequel now that Idris Elba isn’t Deadshot and is a different character. That let me know they want to bring back Will Smith down the line. The suicide squad comics work like this tbh it’s usually a new squad with certain key members coming back.

Its a sequel but Gunn reserves the right to ignore shyt from the first movie he didn't like or doesn't want to be tied to.
