This is one of those films that try hards will latch onto and say it's a classic that went over everyone else's head. When really beyond the convoluted plot there wasn't much to miss. Had some good ideas, but wasn't well executed. I wish they had spent some more time with what happened after Neo died, instead of beating us over the head with how self aware the film is.

And that trash ass exile fight scene? :hhh:

The more I thought about it, I’m in the same boat with you on the flick. I don’t love it. I love the ideas and themes but don’t think lana hit the mark executuon wise. The meta commentary works on the surface but it’s just surface level commentary. Go deeper. I love that it subverts expectations and takes wild swings, but that also causes it to feel a bit inert at times.

And while a love story is clearly at the heart of the original trilogy as it informs pretty much every decision neo makes, their relationship always felt so cold and distant to me so making it the crux of this movie is a miss for me.

I like it better than revolutions and I’m going to think about it for a while.

Thematically, the way it clashes against commercial moviemaking, it works well with Speed Racer, which I fukking adore. But unlike speed racer, I don’t feel the need to revisit this but it will stay on my mind.
Speed Racer was so damn good. Totally forgot the Wachowskis were behind that.

Plenty of reviews say it is. I read some after I watched it just for some shyt to read. Some of them really love it. Some don’t. But a critic said early on that this would be a divisive movie, much like most of the Wachowski’s later stuff.
You may or may not like the themes of this movie (i tend to like them) but the technical shortcomings aren't up to debate

Clearly they are lol. This is what I don’t get about this place or film lovers in general:

Movies aren’t math. One person can see one thing and abhor it for their reasons. Another can see the same thing and adore it for their reasons. How you feel about a movie is about you, not the movie. It’s what you bring to it and what you want from it. What bothers one person may not bother another.

When we act like there’s a right and wrong to skin a cat, then we’re doing it wrong.

For me, the only things objectively wrong in movies is bad craft. Lighting, blocking, shoddy camera work, boom mics in the frame, etc. just bad technique behind the camera. But when we’re talking fight coordination, that’s going to be subjective. When we’re talking CG even that’s subjective because some people genuinely do not care.

There are several writers who genuinely love the movie and I’m not mad at them. There are those who hate it and I’m not mad at them. All art is subjective. All of it. And I just don’t think that’s a concept we adhere to anymore.

What the fukk is meta shyt y'all be talking about? :mindblown: Like, I swear that shyt just started being used like last week now I'm seeing it everywhere.

Anyway, as far as the movie, it's like they made the movie because somebody made them do it and they were like bet :manny: then made some shyt so ridiculous that some people will be in on the joke and call it genius and the other half will say it's exactly what they were making fun of... reboot, retread, unnecessary sequel, studio forced etc etc. I enjoyed it for what it was oh and Keanu Reeves is the GOAT. He got as much range as Shaq from the 3pt line. I especially loved how explosions send people flying like 50 ft like in all 90s action movie tropes. This movie was a straight up :troll: job to execs. Even the cat was a :troll: job. :russ: fukkin cat named Deja Vu

There's a scene in the movie where they talk about how they were done with the franchise but Warner Bros. told them they were doing a 4th one with our without them. That's what happened with the movie. WB said we want another Matrix, the Wachowskis said they were cool on it, WB said, cool, we're still doing one.

That's meta.

Keanus Kung Fu was ass

Choreographer: Alright Keanu, this is how we're going to approach this fight scene

*Does 5 minute long fight scene*

Give it a shot:mjgrin:

Keanu: fukk that, filming John Wick 4 next month, I'm not doing that.:unimpressed:

Choreographer: :dwillhuh:

Keanu: I'm just going to throw my hands out in every scene:ehh:

Choreographer: Lana:gucci:

Lana: I really don't give a fukk about any of this:beli:
