Gotta think of it like a Star wars fan like filoni. There were some really well placed cameos in Rebels. Here, they will likely have to be aliens or fully costumed. Also have to be alive, so the available characters are limited.

Perfect spot for some of the Rebels crew to show up though.

I was starting to think the same way, but a character with as much natural force power as Baby Yoda would HAVE to attract the attention of anyone with knowledge of the Force.
