Please breh. Spielberg has not been must see status since 2005. Stop giving him a pass. QT is on that list for me but the general public had zero interest in hateful 8. Brad and Leo and Margot gave him the stimulus for Hollywood. And I'll give Cameron the benefit of the doubt, but he comes out with movies every 12+ years so he can't be on it
I agree with Spielberg. It's like dude forgot how to make those magical films.

Cameron will put people in the seats and Tarantino still does but he's out of ideas.

James Cameron
Given a 1 billion budget to make Avatar (his IP) sequels.
Can basically write his own checks in Hollywood.

Tarantino
2019 Hit - Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
Budget $90–96 million[3]
Box office
This was after Hateful 8.

Scorsese
Need I say more? Still at the top of his game.
Was given a massive budget for The Irishman because he puts bums on seats.

"The Irishman premiered at the 57th New York Film Festival, and had a limited theatrical release on November 1, 2019, followed by digital streaming on Netflix starting on November 27, 2019. It received critical acclaim, with praise for Scorsese's direction and the performances of De Niro, Pacino, and Pesci. The film received numerous accolades; at the 92nd Academy Awards, it received 10 nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Supporting Actor for Pacino and Pesci, and Best Adapted Screenplay. Additionally, at the 77th Golden Globe Awards, it was nominated for five awards, including Best Motion Picture – Drama, while it earned 10 nominations at the 73rd British Academy Film Awards, including Best Film."

It should also be noted that these guys are getting older so they will become increasingly less active. That doesn't take away from the fact that all these names headline films and remain a draw even today. Not a "must see" necessarily (as you put it) but a draw that will generate attention and audience figures off their names alone.

What you said has merit if you limit your statement to young (relatively speaking) directors only.

And yes, we are in the age of IP and have been so for most of the last decade (for whatever reason), so there will be a dearth of younger competition for original IP at those elevated blockbuster levels.
Breh i told you I gave Cameron the benefit of the doubt. But no one but him is clamoring for avatar sequels. But again his last 2 films made box office history.

Scorsese had to go to streaming because unlike Nolan, studios were afraid of giving him that budget for the Irishman after Silence flopped.

Really QT and recently Peele are the only other names I'd put on the list as of now. And the other 2 really don't make blockbusters so my otiginal statement stands..

"the benefit of the doubt" ... :leon:

:salute: I await someone giving Nolan a BILLION budget.

:sas2:

Meanwhile Scorsese will get his next wide-release big budget gig soon enough ...

Marty's next movie is on Apple TV :heh:

Avatar will continue to get pushed back and it will be close to 20 years since the 1st one by the time it comes out. No one gives a fukk about 3D anymore either. But I'm still not doubting him..

It actually makes sense
The film cost 200 mil to make
Marketing is always the same price
Then you had to keep pushing it back throwing marketing money down the drain
Now they have to market it again and use the same amount of money and hype

"Film executives privately estimate that pushing “Mulan” or “Tenet” a few weeks at a time could amount to losing $200,000 to $400,000 in marketing fees — essentially negligible costs for a major studio in the grand scheme of unveiling a new movie. Depending on various factors, that number could increase to just under $5 million if they are delayed again without sufficient notice."

I'm convinced we will never see an Avatar sequel.
