:picard: Reading the TLR thread on this makes me happy none of them nikkas are in government. Crazy asses.

Loath as I am to admit this, the Baathists have won this war, the rest is simply but attrition and more needless deaths and, maybe, hopefully, the advent of Kurdistan which would sooth a lot of issues (other than Turkey but fukk them) and help ease the region into some form of basic stability.

Though Bashar Al-Assad is still a monster for gassing his own people repeatedly and I hope before this ends that he gets a bullet to the temple.:pacspit: Don't believe the Russian party line, this was all a song and dance by Russia through the Syrian regime and re-enforced by US and NATO hard power projection. Putin was always going to back down, this was always going to be a show of force to embarrass one side or the other, and next year if the war is still ongoing we will do it all again like we have for the last 4-5 years since this war turned into an Islamist insurgency and the last vestiges of the FSA were overrun by Jihadists and Wahabbists because NATO abandoned them in 2013.

  • These nikka believe anything they hear on the news

How do you know he didn’t?

“Derr the government lies about everything!” Isn’t a valid excuse.

There is evidence they are using chemicals on civilians

US was officially in Syria long before Russia, over a year before. Remember, Congress refused to authorize intervention in 2013 but Special Forces went in anyways. Russia intervened officially in September 2015. There are a ton of covert ops happening in Syria from all sides. It's really a dirty war.

So despite all that talk and the eventual missles strike...we’re pretty much in the same damn position as before:

-Assad continues to gain territory.

-Rebels are losing ground.

-Russia, Iran, and Hezbollah continue to support Assad.

-Kurds are stuck via Turkey’s military campaign. Might even end up making a deal with Assad if he continues to gain ground.

-Turkey still has a presence in Syria.

-U.S. seems confused/unsure on what to do next.

-No political solution in sight.

In addition to be very deadly, this war might honestly be the most frustrating war to date. This shyt simply won’t end. Seven years, hundreds of thousands of dead Syrians, millions of refugees, and this war just won’t freaking end.

I’ll ask again what I asked before: what options are left?

This war needs to end and needs to end soon. Too many people have died over this. Many more lives changed forever. And this shyt going seven damn years. :francis:

What does the West have to do with whether the war continues or not? What actions can the US make tomorrow that will wind down the conflict? I don’t see any. Opponents of any military action want to have their cake and eat it too. The determining factor on whether the status quo will change, is whether Assad remains in power or not. You can not wish into existence a peaceful, stable Syria as long as the regime and its backers are fully committed to zero political concessions.

If anything yesterday’s strike emphasizes that the main aims of the American presence continue to be focused on the anti ISIS mission. The attacks were extremely contained, by design, to avoid much direct impact on the regime outside of its chemical weapons ability. The US even sent a message to rebels in Southern Syria, warning them that the action should not be interpreted as direct action against the regime.

Opponents of military action against the regime seem to be arguing with strawmen sometimes and they never revisit their arguments after action actually takes place :francis: Last night was no different. We heard constant refrains that any strike would be catastrophic. It took place, nothing apolcalyptic happened, and they don’t revisit this claim. If you want to have a direct influence on the political situation, then IMO attacks on the regimes Air Force and command and control at least open the door to changing their political calculus. But make no mistake, that while advocating zero action may be in American interest, it does little to end the war.

They know what they're doing...

Cheeto and crew don't care about Syria, they only cared about ISIS which was 90% destroyed before Cheeto was sworn in...

We been saying it in the other thread all week, they're going to bomb asphalt again in an attempt to overshadow Cohen and Comey...

ISIS was 90% destroyed ?:francis:

This is my problem with HL posters . Just saying anything to post.

I'm for military action in Syria only if we can send a one man ground team in first to survey the land composed only of Nap.

He can live out his spy wet dreams and sneak into a Syrian military facility and report back, if he makes it.

I am all for supporting our hero Nap in this endeavor, he gonna need a VPN for coli codec support in the desert

Exactly what I was talking about on the above post. It doesn’t even engage with the facts on the ground. The regime isn’t open to any such “negotiated” settlement that isn’t set on its own terms. It’s own terms being on the end of a sustained, all out offensive and blockade. He’s very short on specifics, and I bet he would be out of his depth if he was PM.

Like I said before what would he have to gain by gassin his own people when he was on the verge of success... :mindblown: DO YOU REALLY BELIEVE THE AMERICAN GOVT AT FACE VALUE... YOUR WILLING TO JUST BELIEVE IT??? how can you sit there and NOT be skeptical when it comes to the military.... this shyt has NOTHING to do with the U.S. and instead gets involved anyways ask yourself how much a cruise missile or tomahawk costs and who gets paid off of it. who benefits the MOST from using these weapons... Also that's not taking into account innocent people killed in the crossfire the media blatantly omits from the news reports... I'm sick and tired of muthafukkas just taking it up the ass and then get mad when you tell them they probably lying about it... :dahell: WAKE UP!!!!

This false narrative that Obama destroyed the military and that the US DoD hasn't had the strongest military in the world for the past 70 years is absolutely sickening.

No one has been close for decades.

No country in WORLD HISTORY has ever been able to project power across the globe like the American military.

i remember one time trump said that the US military has less ships than at any other time in history and how that was bad.
you know what else the US military has less of than at any other time in history?

horses...because we don't need them and we don't need all of those goddamn ships.
one of our battle ships can do more that 10 battleships from 40 years ago.

America spent $611 billion on the military in 2016.
that\'s more than China, Russia, Saudi Arabia, France, UK, Japan and Germany combined.
6 out of those 8 are allies...and they just passed a 13% increase in military spending from 2017 so that now brings the military budget up to $716 billion dollars for next year.

:dead:

Does the US really need a huge boost in military spending?
