Bro, there is something called context. I’m not familiar with you but anyone who has been on this board at any point over the past decade knows that you can miss me with that politics 101 lesson. I don’t why every time I decide to not write paragraphs people think that’s an opening to say the most rudimentary things. I’m not trying to be snarky but I just don’t feel like going over and over the same shyt. It’s boring. Maybe try asking me what I meant?
Here’s actual facts, the stimulus bill that republicans fought was so popular that they are now in their home districts taking credit for the bill. McConnel’s own seat is irrelevant to my point. The Republicans are favored to take back both branches of congress and as much as you want to pretend that Republicans are all over 65 - they have student loan debt and kids with debt just like everyone else. So please explain to me how going into a midterm election, Republicans would be able to successfully campaign on saying that we are going to return 40,000 worth on debt on average to the American student loan borrower? Not only would that turn off segments of their base, it would inspire a substantial turnout of the voters democrats need to win. (Young and black voters and college educated people.). It would literally given the disjointed Democratic coalition something to rally around now that they don’t have Trump. Lastly, the economic effects of eliminating debt would be so beneficial that you would be relinquishing to economic argument to Biden who already has favorable ratings. It’s just not smart politics. Moreover, Biden has already cancelled student loan debt since being president and no one has challenged either of those moves. Republicans rightfully recognize that it’s not good politics. Saying that Biden does not have the power to cancel student loan debt would also most likely mean that the pauses under both Trump and Biden were illegal and insurers would be able to collect the lost interest from those months. You really think Republicans in 2022, after Biden passes a stimulus, is giving parent 600 dollars a month, reopens from covid, and then passes an infrastructure bill with job growth happening every month - are going to run on taking money out of your pocket? Their best bet is to not do shyt and hope Biden depresses the base and they don’t turn out like in 2014.
