I really don't understand the progressive critique of the debt ceiling negotiations outside of student debt

Because the point of a negotiation is to gain something for your side...what did Biden gain for his constiuents?

It's definitely a shame for Biden to agree to restrict the president's ability to pause student loans again before the Supreme Court decides on the lawsuit.

This will definitely cause some backlash unless the Supreme Court upholds the forgiveness and/or there's a loophole for another moratorium.

I think he purposely wants to snake his way through it. It’s been the one topic he’s politically wanted to avoid because of both his own history with loans and his backers from his home state of Delaware.

If the decision happens post 2024 when it can’t affect his re-election campaign he pulled a pure political kabuki “fukk them kids” move which is originally what he wanted to say.
