Every fukking adult was a skeptic and didn’t believe the kids if that was his role it was redundant. Show wasn’t even on rainbow time like that until the third season, so not sure where Lucas being the “straight man” comes into play. He literally just complained. You take home boy out there is just a little less complaining.Lucas is integral to the group cuz he is the objective, logical, headstrong, skeptic, which is absolutely necessary when u dealing with alternate dimensions, Demogorgons and Mindflayers. He makes a lot of assumptions about El when they first meet, which prove to be true. He accepts the facts and changes his opinions once he's experienced all the weird shyt for himself, and when he sees that El has their back. Lucas' character / archetype, the straight man, is anything but filler. It's necessary.

Well if his role was the skeptic they dragged it out dam near to the end of the season and gave him no type of back story or details to know him more in depth. They do much better with it in season 3 and especially this season when we see more of him as an actual protagonist with his own interest and wants. Not just the skeptic of the group which again seems redundant once you start crossing dimensions and shytLucas' role is the skeptic of the kid group which is essential. Of course the adults will be more skeptical. They're critical thinkers compared to kids, who should be more concrete until they develop more.
Rainbow time? The "straight man" is a character archetype / trope. Nothing to do with rainbow time.

By far one of the greatest moments I’ve seen on a television series.
Some of you still don’t get what this show is. nikka. They’re supposed to be the typical clueless parents from 80s films that have no idea about the shyt their kids are really getting into. You over here talking about Maga and shytDoing a rewatch. I'm on season 2 and goddamn these parents are dense. With their 'the government wouldn't lie to us' nonsense. If this were modern day they would definitely be MAGa
