What am I getting into?

The battery life sucks. the screen is average. it isn't just a plug & play, simple handheld gaming option. it's literally a small linux pc, so at least some level of tinkering will be required, maybe even more depending on what you're trying to do. that can be both a negative and a positive (if you're having an issue with one thing or another, there's a pretty good chance some nerd on the internet has found a fairly simple solution to your problem).

perfect example: i want to play gamepass pc games on here but i DON'T want to use the xcloud option.
Positive: I can just download a portable version of Windows to a little USB-C drive and play games from there
Negative: a dock is pretty much required to get windows drivers setup on here. and worse, the steam deck controls don't work in-game in windows by default, and there are no default drivers out yet to get them to work (at least not that im aware of)
Positive: There's a workaround available to get windows to recognize the steam deck controls and play relatively problem free.

I was on the toilet playing Yakuza: Like a Dragon...shyt was wild. Like I caught the holy ghost just at the feeling of playing such a game on the go.

But yeah...those issues get in the way. If you bout it with Linux its a plus, but if you are just using Game Mode...its a perfect entry to PC gaming. Hence why brehs like :damn:

maybe I’m overthinking it but what do you mean by game mode?

Game mode is basically Steam but more focus on the handheld gaming side. Sort of like Big Picture mode for the regular desktop app. On the Steam Deck you can go into the Desktop mode which is basically Linux. Hence why I bought it in the first place. I want to do computer tasks on it and game out my ass on it. I honestly was going to build a mini gaming pc but something told me to just get the Steam Deck.

Glad I made that decision.
