For me the biggest advantage that the ROG has over the SD is that the ROG can play everything the SD can play and some of the newer games that the SD cannot. Also the ability to use Game Pass which is not too important but a nice option to have. That said, from what I've experienced with the ROG, a lot of games will require you playing with settings to get them to run decently so if you're not a fan of playing with settings, the SD might be better.

I wouldn't say emulating on the ROG is difficult since it's just a PC in handheld form. You can install Emudeck or download and install the emulators individually. I have it setup on my ROG but I'm going to upgrade the SSD before I do anything else. You can also install Bazzite on it to turn it into an unofficial steam deck.
So with the ROG I’d have to play with the settings to get a game to run well but with the SD those settings will be automatically in place or easier to configure? :jbhmm:

Copped a 512 gb oled (didn't want anti glare) and slapped 1.5 tb sd card in :blessed:

Copped foldable keyboard, mouse, and old Ps3 controller as well as snap on kickstand dock with hdmi output.

Has my steam library, Xbox gamepass/remote play/cloud gaming, ripped pc games like battlefield 2 and 1942, ripped all my switch games, and my emulator library. This form factor is fire for ps2 games.

This the SD right? How much you pay for the 512 GB OLED? :jbhmm:

Also I read on Reddit a lot of people saying the SD is very uncomfortable to hold in your hands after awhile while the ROG is a lot better grip wise. Do y’all agree? :jbhmm:

My bad for the 1000 questions, I really know nuffin bout this stuff especially hand held :dwillhuh:

How are you doing gamepass on it? I use geforce now which is immaculate, just curious. They need an official app.

No what I am saying is that to play newer titles (games like Monster Hunter Wilds) on the ROG, you will need to play with the settings to get it to run decently. I don't think the SD can play a game like Wilds. Here's an example of what I mean The Best Settings For Monster Hunter Wilds On The ROG Ally

A 512 GB OLED is $549 new and $439 refurbished. I copped a refurbished one and it was practically brand new for $100 less.

I’ve never used a ROG but the SD is comfortable and never been a problem for me with extended use.

At the end of the day both are good devices it just comes down to preference. SD is a more streamlined console like experience and the ROG will require more configuration.

The Rog has different variations so you have to take that into consideration as well.

There is the Z1, the Z1 Extreme and then the X. The Z1 is the weakest and you shouldn’t bother with that one. Either get the Z1 Extreme or the X.
