But I really, REALLY LOVED how they did Mysterio in this and the intricacies of how they made his powers work in live action.

Change is inevitable...
The Skrulls that were discovered in Captain Marvel work for Fury now. Fury doesn't have the time to babysit Peter and ensure he grows up...but he has the Skrulls and Happy Hogan to do that. Meanwhile, Fury is working on S.W.O.R.D space station which is basically SHIELD but in Space, since it is crystal clear now that the Earth will have threats on planet and threats coming from beyond.
Also...Mysterio, the fukkboy he is and has always been, gave Peter a parting shot...he recorded his defeat in such a way that not only does it look like Spiderman killed Mysterio (who most of the world still thinks was a hero) but that HE was responsible for everything. Enter JJ Jameson with the classic "Spiderman is a menace!" shyt only now, the entire world knows who Peter Parker is, which has always been the main reason Spiderman has gone to great lengths to protect his identity. He has put away so many people and has such a dangerous and extensive Rogue's Gallery that everyone he knows and loves is now at risk
Happy might be the only person that is safe from Peter's enemies because I'm sure Tony has protocols in place to protect him and Pepper in the case of any of them being in danger

Started out kinda meh but omg by the end I was loving it! Great coming of age story for peter.
Way better than the first film for me and I can't wait till the next. May be my fave Spidey film. I'll have to see it again

Yeah I need to re-watch spiderman 2 to see which was better. It's also little things in this I liked such as when MJ was swinging with Spiderman her hair was messed up. Shows some thought was put into the scenes.

Avi was once producer for all of Marvel's movies, right? I remember he showed up on a lot of X-Men DVD special features and if I'm not mistaken even the first Iron Man.
Yes, he was the head of Marvel Studios and one the people that helped Marvel get out of bankruptcy at the time to license out their characters to other studios.

My two gripes with this movie is how exactly was Mysterio an employee of Tony yet SHIELD wasn’t able to identify him? How did Peter & MJ stay on the bridge that long without someone identifying him without his mask on?

He could just say on his earth he is a soldier and not a scientist like on the 616 earth.
Yup. He was the head of studio for a minute. He helped bring them back from bankruptcy in the 90s and was actually a part of the marvel studios we know today. I forgot what happened to cause him to leave.
Anyone who could identify him is either dead or in space.
