That movie is burned into my mind, her modeling, then going thru the castle and being shipped off into slavery. I think this shyt traumatized me as a kid also
Sankofa, Eve's bayou, Daughters of the Dust, Shaka Zulu were movies I wasn't supposed to be watching without an adult but I swore up and down I was grown

Rape scene aside. Am I the only one who enjoyed the first season's plot direction with Franklin slowly doing quests and not how he became this super Kingpin with a stupid accent by season 2?
First season did and incredible job of world building. Singleton had L.A. seeming like a dream for black people in that period l.

Norfeast groovin…
Was that the castle from the movie Sankofa? I wish Leon would have listened to Wanda and just stayed

I haven’t seen that in AGES…me and my cousin saw it in theaters…I was still in my (late) teens lol

It use to scare the mess out of me when I was little. But it's one of my favorite movies now

Damn, I work for the creator of Sankofa running his bookstore. Ngl it’s kinda trippy to hear y’all talk about it. That’s what most people tell me about their experience seeing the movie when they were young. I could never watch another movie about enslavement after seeing Sankofa.

And yeah, the Elmina shots reminded me of Sankofa a lot. It also reminded me of the director’s wife’s film Through the Door of No Return which had a lot of scenes at Elmina Castle. That whole episode was absolute fire though I wish Leon would’ve listened to Wanda and stayed. I’m hoping they make it back to Ghana. :wow:
