She could’ve let Reed pop him if that was the case.I guess the writers can twist it but it’d be silly.
Frank didn't want Alton to die/was still trying to protect him, either way (setup or not) I doubt she would want Frank to see his pops get killed.

The only thing I can think is that she didn't want Franklin to see Alton get killed because:She could’ve let Reed pop him if that was the case.
1. Seeing his dad get killed would've destroyed Franklin mentally, and
2. Cissy knew Franklin would try to avenge Alton & probably end up dead as a result.
Maybe Cissy sacrificed her man to save her boy.
Amin Joseph just asked Isaiah John if Leon was going to join church & be a choir director next season.
