So you dont think there is no other way to show the destruction Frank is causing in his hood other than to make his love interest and 17 year old pretty light skin girl a permanent crackhead?
The whole point of having her smoked out for the past two episodes was to illustrate that, now she is going to use her fathers suicide that she probably thinks she caused to get clean and get back on the path he wanted for her.
Wouldn't be suprised if Franklin pays to send her off to rehab.
This is TV.
This is the 80s. There wasn't sophisticated rehab facilities (for crack at least) like we got today. America's solution was to have the police lock up addicts and act like the problem doesn't exist...They ignored the spread of this shyt all the way until the Contra Scandal came to the light, it started affecting the white community, and politicians saw an opportunity to use the war on drugs for advancement in their profession. People hardly even knew how bad crack was until it had already spun completely out of hand. I feel like Leon trying to convince you Franklins about Mel...She gone nikka. She ain't comin' back this series. I was born around the start of this era...I saw a lot of the effects of this shyt comin up. John Singleton completely LIVED thru it...If you think this show got a happy ending for any nikka...you might as well stop watching now and save yourself some heartbreak.

this is the reality of it...it’s just a matter of whether or not the writers have the balls to illustrate this on television for us...I know walter mosley can take it there if he’s not “leashed” and I don’t say that disrespectfully but I know certain stations have their limits...and that’s the difference between an FX or AMC v. an HBO or SHO

I still think ALL the characters on the show were set up to show how something good gets ruined with no hope of redemption. Here's something I posted way back in the original Season 1 thread. Some of the specifics may be incorrect, but I still believe in the general direction:

I don't want to be too hard on the show because I like it, but another way of saying that is that you can see the stereotypes that they're setting up all the characters to become:
-Kangol bucket hat friend->Crackhead :wtf:
-Girl next door->Crack whore
-Afro friend->Killed by gang violence:dead:
-Uncle->Guy who goes to jail and gets violated in some way and has an obligatory scene like "I used to be so much happier when I was just selling WEED":why:
-Mother->in denial about her sweet little boy:wtb:

They're kind of telegraphing all this stuff.

The last couple episodes convinced me they are going to go full tragedy. This show has proven it has balls to tell the narrative the way it should. It's great because you love the characters but are gonna have to see them take major Ls eventually. :sadcam:

I think this shyt ends with a new Franklin taking his place after he gets life in jail or murdered. And something tells me Manboy will be the last one standing.
