epic fukking night. the fact that they got all these legends to commit to this is an amazing feat.

one undeniable fact and one harsh reality 1. Eddie Murphy is a legend. 2. Eddie Murphy isn't funny anymore. Maybe all the tranny/child support shyt that went down changed him, or maybe its all the box office flops or maybe its just that he's too rich to be inspired to make new material... but the Eddie of old is pretty much dead and gone and it's a damn shame.

oh and to whoever said SNL won't make it to 50 seasons, fukouttahere. SNL is an institution. I'm guessin the reason they went this big for the 40th is that some of these legends won't be alive in 10 years... I mean did yall see Chevy, Steve & Murray :flabbynsick: azzes

comedy in general just isnt the same anymore....too many sacred cows. The Weekend Update they did sucked...how was Seinfeld the only one to make a Brian Williams joke?

i know just like y'all i'm a bit upset eddie ain't do no kind of skit or stand up but you know what, eddie really ain't gotta do shyt

just like dr. dre ain't gotta make another album

eddie is among the elite now. eddie left that show at the peak of his career and never had to go back and "promote" his movies by usin' that show because he's "eddie murphy". he's that great and talented. that alone just speaks volumes to eddie's greatness

would it have been cool if he did do a skit or some stand up, of course

but he doesn't have too :yeshrug:

nobody had to come back and perform, and plenty of SNL alumns went of to be come massive stars and they still came back and performed in some way last night

i mean, fukking the lgend himself Bill Murray put himself out there last night

Jerry Seinfeld is arguably bigger than all of them, wasnt a cast member, doesnt usually put himself out there like this, and did an entire 10 segment for the show

and the list goes on, that shyt from Eddie was weak

I think i remember Charlie Murphy talking on Howard Stern about how Eddie is kind of scared to do stand-up comedy again because so much would be expecting of him and he doesn't think he could live up to those expectations. The further we get away from "RAW", the legend of Eddie Murphy just keeps growing. Pretty much all the younger comedians (Rock, Chappelle, Hart) and even some of his peers think Eddie is the GOAT and if he isn't the #1 he's #1A to Pryor. I think Eddie doesn't want to be Willie Mays on the Mets:yeshrug:

Sucks that Eddie didn't do more than what he did, but like he said, that was a part of his life 35 years ago. He's moved on; I guess everyone else should too
Yeah I mean I get the disappointment or whatever. Its been a long time but there a lot of factors that need to be considered.

Eddie simply didn't feel comfortable doing anything else (trying to live up to his standards and the bar he raised has got to be tough. Same shyt Dave Chappelle is in, in regards to doing Chappele Show again), Eddie wasn't allowed to do much else due to petty bad blood (hes got some history with the folks in the back, and thus they were able to just only agree with Eddie at least showing his face and having some words of expression for the show), or Eddie was being an ass and simply refused to do anything else, which I am going to say is not the case. He could have refused to show up period.

We may never know though.

But at least he showed up (never thought he would again), payed his respects, and kept it moving (and as pointed out by you, he stayed for the entire festivities)

But him being the ONLY one they praised as such AND in turn, being the ONLY one that did nothing, is bad form. It's being a poor sport. He didn't even attempt one joke, one shot, a little jab at Lorne....

Overall, the show was excellent. Them starting with Celeb Jeopardy was genius. Only The Californias dragged on too long..maybe they had to make up time...but that was like the only one they could incorporate so many players.

His last decade+ of movies has already done that for him. It's a shame that he's never honed his writing skills.

40 years a hell of a feat, and so many GOAT funny people walk thru that door:whew:

...but, Can Lorne now put SNL out of its misery in Larry Holmes Garden:flabbynsick:

Eddie WAS the man, hate this has to be him:yeshrug:

Those last 10 years of movie failures haven't done anything to Eddie's reputation as a stand-up and comedic genius. His hits are too massive to be overshadowed by Pluto Nash & Norbit. There wouldn't be this much discussion about Eddie in 2015 if anybody cared about the last 10 years...

I really think it's as simple as that part of his life is over. When's the last time Eddie was doing standup actively? It's gotta be close to 30 years by now.

i feel like eddie is at the point where hes tired of people running their mouth. probably feels like he cant win no matter what

but imo, he needs his truman show/stranger than fiction dramatic showing to complete his cipher. i personally wont be satisfied until i see him do it

Maybe, but other than the SNL reunion talk, there hasn't been any Eddie Murphy talk or merit in the last good 15 years. He's regarded as another has-been. Even him being on Shrek, it's still the cast, and not Eddie Murphy and the cast. A lot of the younger folk have no idea who Eddie Murphy was in his prime, and he's still visible. Imagine tying to explain to a teenager that Pluto Nash is the same guy from Raw; Showtime is the Beverly Hills Cop.

I don't think anyone would've said he lost it, if he did something, anything. All he had to do was one line, and it would've been a wrap. It was awkward for all of that praise and him to say thank you and that's it. One joke, one to poke fun was all that anyone wanted and him being the only one who did nothing, made it bad.

Lorne said on the Red Carpet, when it was announced that it would be lived sketches, that if they started running long, they would trim some of the pre-taped stuff. he had time, was given his moment and made it worst. Honestly, I'd rather him not show.

You don't have to explain anything to a teenager though because there's proof of his greatness and where would anyone see Pluto Nash at? Its not like it shown anywhere but I know if I want to see "BH Cop" or "Coming to America" I can find that easily. I bet more teenagers have seen "Trading Places" than Pluto Nash because its one of the greatest Xmas movies ever. If i ask a teenager had you seen "Jame's Brown Celebrity Hot Tub" and they say no, i can have it up on my phone in seconds. No one cares about Pluto Nash or Norbit because Eddie's greatness erases those bad movies. Eddie is trending on Twitter worldwide right now, not because of his failures but because of his greatness...

No, people just wanted to see Eddie do a skit on SNL because its the house he built. He could do no wrong if he did a skit, just like when he was on the show.
