Two different characters that Marvel created in the 1970s to get in on that martial arts craze that was going on.
Shang Chi came out in 1973 and Iron Fist showed up a year later.
It's funny that if Marvel hadn't temporarily acquired the rights to the Dr. Fu Manchu novels that Shang Chi probably wouldn't even exist. Marvel initially wanted to get the rights to the Kung Fu TV show character which would've given them the white martial arts master character that they eventually got with Iron Fist except WB wouldn't sell Kung Fu's rights to Marvel. So they scooped up Fu Manchu and decided to give the character a son who would be on the side of good.
