I agree its a little "early" for the year the show is supposed to be.
But, to be fair, we don't really know how much time has passed since the premiere. I think by now they're at least late into 1992. So its not like they're in 1987 sounding like 1994.

They're still in 1991 judging by the inspection stickers on people's cars

Is it just me or does Famous's rap style sound more like 1993/1994?
Out of all the timeline discrepancies(jerseys, cars, slang, etc), this is definitely the most nitpickiest :francis:

you don't think Snoop or OutKast, who both debuted in 93, had their own general style in 91? Famous should sound like an MC in 93-94, since that's probably when he would actually pop

thats not nitpicky. the beat especially does not sound like a 1991 beat. sounds like some erykah badu shyt from 1998. they shoulda had lord finesse or pete rock or large professor give them a throwaway 1991 beat for this

Nobody suspicious of a black teen girl.. You can't be from NY.. There's a reason there was so many unsolved murders.. I can understand if this show was in the south what you're saying.. In NY you went a video rental store.. It was a weed spot.. You went to a pool hall, it was a coke spot.. You went to a restaurant, it was a coke spot.. This shyt only sounds crazy that didn't grow up in NY.

Take away the cameras.. Bring this back to the 90s.. These nikkaz don't get caught

I get what you're saying, but I'm talking specifically about white ppl in Upper East/West Side at that time. They were suspicious of all Black ppl they saw or came in contact with, especially back then. Stay-at-home Moms would've had their eyes glued on Juke while 'jogging', pushing their strollers or looking through the curtains as soon as she set foot on that block. Given that, it's unlikely Juke would've attempted to break in and even more likely the police would've been swiftly called before Nicole's parents got back home.

Yeah that beat and the way Juke's vocal stylings were from the neo-soul era. Famous's verses was later than 94 imo more like 97ish. A kid from NY at that time woulda came out spittin like Naughty by Nature or the Fu Schnickens.

Yeah was anyone in New York rapping like that in 1991? It's not implied on the show that Famous is a groundbreaking MC, his own manager thinks he's wack

The show's soundtrack sounds nothing like that, it's more like the Naughty by Nature esque stuff you'd expect in 1991

He'd have tried to emulate BDK, Rakim or ATCQ especially being from Queens.

Yea Famous sounds like he’s from 1997-99. Early 90s was much more gritty and rappers weren’t flowing like that. They still had that choppy 80s flow. Nas, Biggie, Pun and Jay hadn’t entered the game yet which made a lot of nikkas change their style.

This was 1991. Famous sounds out of place.

A couple of months at most have passed. Unique had Davina's mother killed one month ago according to the timeline.

Yeah and I don't think any Puerto Rican rappers in 1991 were saying the N word in every other bar

:unimpressed:
Fat Joe started rapping in 92 so yes Puerto Rican nikkas all across The tristate area was referring to themselves and others as nikkas as early as the 80s
