I don't see how effie gets out of this, at worse she should be caught up and on trial for attempted murder.

She can totally get out of it if she gives up everyone else to save herself, which she's had no problem doing on more than one occasion. She has no ties to any of the other characters and no reason to save them.

Even Diana could get out of the situation she's currently in with the Whitman murder by giving up Monet.
