I'm pretty sure it's a flashback since The Professor and Berlin are brothers and knew each other way before the crew got together.

There could still be a Harry Morgan type situation like in Dexter though.

Yeah, it's revealed in a flashback iirc. It also explains why Berlin was going extra to follow the Professor's plans when Tokyo and some of the others were acting like straight bytches in some parts.

I liked this a lot. This was real sci fi. Lots of clues as to what was going on. Very philosophical
