What’s New on Netflix in August

Orange Is the New Black isn’t even back yet, and Netflix is already telling us what comes out in August! It’s a big month for Netflix originals, with the premiere of Matt Groening’s fantasy cartoon Disenchantment, season 2 of Ozark, and a new comedy special from Demetri Martin. Here are the highlights, and the full list of shows, movies, and comedy specials coming and going from Netflix next month.

Highlights

Shows
Simpsons and Futurama creator Matt Groening introduces Disenchantment, a cartoon about a runaway princess bride. The trailer implies that this will be more touchy-feely than Futurama, and it feels like the combination of sincere and ironic that worked for Rick & Morty.

Two Netflix original documentary series look especially promising. In Zion, a teenager born without legs works to become a competitive wrestler. In I AM A KILLER, “history’s most notorious killers recount their stories from their points of view in their own chilling words.” So like The Jinx meets Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee?

Switched sounds cool: “High schooler Ayumi’s perfect world evaporates when her envious classmate Zenko somehow steals her body, her boyfriend and her life.” Insatiable sounds less cool. Get hype for The Ponysitters Club: “A young horse enthusiast teams up with her best friends to rescue and rehabilitate animals on her family’s beloved ranch.” Friendship is magic!

The Good Place season 2 comes to Netflix on August 28, so if for some dumb reason you haven’t caught up on that, lucky you! And No Reservations is available as promised.

Movies
Netflix film Like Father stars Kristen Bell as a “workaholic left at the altar,” Kelsey Grammer as her deadbeat dad, and Seth Rogen as the guy Bell hooks up with on a cruise ship. Not Criterion Collection stuff, but it looks cute, even at an Apatovian length of 103 minutes.

To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, based on the young adult novel by Jenny Han, looks cute: “When her secret love letters somehow get mailed to each of her five crushes, Lara Jean finds her quiet high school existence turned upside down.”

Steel Magnolias is on Netflix now! So are Clerks, Batman Begins, The Fellowship of the Ring, The Aviator, No Country for Old Men, and Million Dollar Baby.

Comedy Specials
This doesn’t look like a big month for Netflix stand-up specials, but Demetri Martin’s The Overthinker comes out on the 10th, and the second half of The Comedy Lineup (where each comedian delivers a tight 15) comes out at the end of the month.

Last Call
The 40-Year-Old Virgin leaves Netflix this month. So do Walk Hard, Harold and Kumar Go to Guantanamo Bay, and Finding Dory.

Two thirds of the way thru extinction, yeah, there is more action but how it ends is better.

Y'all was mad about some big rolling smoke cloud, y'all really gonna be mad when you find out what extinction is about.

How it Ends is :snoop:
How did they let that be the final script? The premise is good but the lack of explanation for anything was mind boggling.

I'M SPOILING shyt

Dude just left his wife by herself in the city :what: no man would do that.
The random people dead in their cars, the huge military crashes, no explanation for any of it :francis:
How the girl just got up and walked while in the middle of nowhere :wtf:
That weird ass neighbor :gucci:

The movie was like a roller coaster ride that kept going up and building tension but never dropped :yeayea:
Finally watched it. Nothing was explained whatsoever. Why not make it a series if they aren't going to give any explanation to anything and have a incomplete ending like that.:hhh:

Also what was the point in introducing the character at the end?
