The thing with a Timbaland helmed Nas album could be great. As a producer, Tim has some of the same qualities as Salaam (Tim's a better producer IMO) except he doesn't play instruments. With that snippet that he put up a few months ago, he's proven that he can produce something for Nas that sounds dope (so far) without compromising who Nas is. Nas is a versatile MC and Timbo's a versatile producer. I don't even think they'd even aim for radio or records that dominate the Top 40 even with the JT and Jay Z feature on "Sinatra In The Sands".

:trash:

I would no longer be a fan if Nas ever did this. I am not a fan of Timbaland production. I can't name one Timbaland hip hop beat that I ever liked. Nas sounded great on the production from LIF. I believe he is his finest over similar types of production. Timbaland's funny ass sounds and weird effects are good for artist like Missy or someone but a Legendary MC, IMO. Perhaps, he could make something that is serviceable for a filler or maybe even a radio joint but cannot foresee any Hip Hop classics coming from Timbaland. I would hate to hear Nas' album sounding like anything Kanye or Jayz has done lately.

I promised not to chime into this thread until real album news pops up so I'm out.

You'd stop being a Nas fan over for that? There's a lot of Nas fans that weren't necessarily fans of a lot of the stuff he's done with Salaam, but they still are fans. Personally, I think some of his best work is with Salaam. I still think "Zone Out" is one of the worst beats Nas has ever rapped over and they've done a few other songs that were sub-par, but they were on point for the most part.

You really think this snppet sounds like what Kanye (which is funny because people still want Kanye to produce for Nas) or Jay Z has done lately:

If the Timbo joints are on the same vibe as the snippet he released with Nas or Rick Ross' "Movin Bass," I'm all for it.

I am not a huge fan of Salaam either so I feel you on that especially Zone Out but tracks like Legendary and a couple of others even it out. I think my thing with Timbaland is that his sounds more pop-ish to me and I am used to and prefer hearing Nas over sample-based production as opposed to Hi frequency base slaps, reverbed sounds, toots and beeps and sped up closed hats. That snippet above sounds cool. Of course, the rhymes are always on point, but the production doesn't advance Nas's sound or discography enough to meet my fan boy expectations for the next nas album.

I just want dope production. I'm wary of Timbo but that snippet sounds dope. I'm even more wary of Swizz. Both have some dope beats that fit Nas, I'm just not confident in Nas' ability to pick dope beats from them. The last thing I want is another Summer On Smash type record that is just straight ass. Or MCHG type beats

I'd like to see Nas continue with No I.D. but rap over some more imaginative, harder stuff from him.

Ultimately I just want to hear Nas on some beats that are hard and translate live. Life Is Good is a good album but has a lot of tracks I can't imagine wanting to hear at a concert. Perhaps this Illmatic tour has really crystallized what works and doesn't work live. My wish list:

-Black Milk

-Alchemist

-Exile

He did a beat for Life Is Good but it wasn't used

-Ty Beats

-Cool & Dre

Am I the only who likes this version more than the album one? :whew:

me too, the intro gave it a ob4cl feeling and I love the string more, it's even more melancolic

But, yeah, even if Timbaland's heavily involved in producing the album, I doubt he'd produce the entire album. Nas has never had one producer do all of the beats on his albums. Even though I'm anticipating the music that Nas and Tim did together (as long as it's the quality of that snippet or even better), I'd still like to hear Nas link back up with Alchemist, J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League, No I.D. and maybe even Noah "40" Shebib.
