Listen, peep game from the brain of an all-star
The rain hurt nikkaz bones who been shot
Metal pins in their leg, they walk with a limp-hop
The streets lie, (When the block is hot) so you better be cautious
Your man'll fry you plus, everybody talkin'
A vet, a General, don't step where I walked in
Make your own path, be a legend in your skin

(Hold down the block, when the block is hot)
Make your own cash, don't stress what I'm forcin'
Don't expect more when you put in less work than all them
Queensbridge projects has taught him, and that's for life
You heard me right, I got the block (When the block is hot)

:blessed::salute:

Listening to Stillmatic. :blessed:

Brings back sweet memories of my highschool senior year. :ahh:

I had to wait to after seventh period to go and cop my CD at Virgin Music store, but the buzz in the hallway all day was "that One Mic, listen to it; it's powerful." :lawd:

Remembers the first time pressing play on my Sony CD player and hearing:

Ayo, the brother is "Stillmatic"
I crawled up out of that grave, wiping the dirt, cleaning my shirt
They thought I'll make another "Illmatic"
But it's always forward I'm moving
Never backwards stupid here's another classic
C-Notes is falling from the sky
By now the credits roll starring Nas executive poet, produced, directed by
The Kid slash Escobar
Narration describes the lives and laws tribes in the ghetto trying to survive
The feature opens with this young black child
Finger scratch, cigarette burns on the sofa, turning the TV down
Mary Jane girls, 45's playing, soft in the background
Poof from C-Town's mornings was hash browns

:whew:

I knew Escobar season was back, and another classic was at hand. :ohlawd:

Man, I was extra parched for this album. Beat Street was selling cd before the release date...So i go and buy a copy, throw the cd on thinking I'm about :cook: real good with this, especially having it before my friends...so I plays it...Stillmatic intro comes on and i'm on some ...:whew:...than next was "Ether" (mind you, I avoided listening to it on a mixtape or radio, wanted to hear it for the first time entirely from the album)...I hear gun shots. now i'm like :ooh: ...then "...Jay-Z" ...then "...Jay-Z" again..i'm now ....then I listen to it and am like :wtf:, I know there's some goddamn cursing on this song..play the next song, and still no curses...at this point I went from :cook: to :beli: ...these bums had the edited version on sale with the advisory sticker for thirsty dudes like me who couldn't wait to purchase it on the release date...so i bought it back to the store and they ended up exchanging it the day of the release. Then I was :ahh: all is well in the world again.

I Know This Sounds Like Some Lame Ass, Typical Elitist, Old Head shyt To Say But "Hope" Off "Hip Hop Is Dead" Is The Rawest, Truest Form Of Explaining Growing Up Into Hip Hop And What It Means.

That's NY In Its Essence
