Premier is also notoriously late to sessions he's missed deadlines for albums Jay's for example

Makes sense because Premier isn't a send you a beat tape producer. He's going to make something specifically for you so if the schedules don't align he may not be able to get something done.

I wouldn’t necessarily say that was a shot just Premo coming to grips with not being the go too guy anymore. Dude was on both Nas and Jay’s first four albums so to go from that to literally NOTHING with either of them after the early 2000’s must have been a bitter pill to swallow.

I remember Jay being asked why he doesn’t work with Premo around the time American Gangster dropped and he said “Just Blaze is the new Premier”. I thought that was a bit disrespectful at the time but Blaze WAS Jay’s guy so it makes sense.

Also Premo was one of the few Illmatic producers who didn't publicly shyt on IWW. Granted he has a record on there which helped lmao but it's still noteworthy.

I respect Premo's process. He didn't change it for anybody, in an era where everyone was regularly shopping beats and looking for checks. My only question is with IWW...he has said that he almost didn't make the album because he was so busy, and he only got to provide one beat. Was there discussion of him doing more than one track? I'd love to know the answer.

I doubt there’d be more than one Premo track even if Premo had the time. Stoute and Trackmasters were trying to steer Nas in a new direction (some might say “commercial”) I Gave You Power fits perfectly on the first half of the album but that second half belongs to the Trackmasters (with Dre and Havoc thrown in for good measure)

What Jay said about Premo was disrespectful as fukk. It’s not like he said it in a song like how Common did about Ye. I never liked when people claim someone is the new version of someone else and that person is still around and working.

Second half of the album had Silent Murder, Suspect, Shootouts, and Live nikka Rap. Premo could’ve def had another beat on there and Trackmasters met Nas in the middle on that album for sure. The Message, Shootouts, and Affirmative Action were all produced by them. None of which were commercial sounding. Plus Havoc, LES, and Stretch all had 2 beats each on the album. 3 for LES if u count that he co produced Black Girl Lost.

It's not even the media or industry per se. His own fans are divided on "I Am..."

I love the album. It's a personal classic to me, but a lot of dudes on here hate on it. I've seen nothing but praise for it from other artists and the media.
My GOAT MC:boss: really made an intro of his discography in chronological order over the Amytville score:banderas::wow:

You forgetting all of those Mobb Deep havoc tracks.
It was written was a grimy album had some of the ruggedest beats ever on it.

f yall wanna put a smile on yall face. Watch reactions to Rewind on YouTube. lol. 😂. People minds literally blown.
I remember playing this around wifey (girlfriend at the time) once and she's not into Hip-Hop at all and not a lyric person, but when Nas said "bobbed her head then spit the nut back in my dikk" she went :picard: what did he just say?

Played the track back and she had to give Nas the props he deserves :ahh:

This is the song that really made me know Nas was different than the rest of these nikkas at the time.
