The rewriting of history of I am is completely done intentionally in my opinion. It’s done to not give Nas the 3 peat universally. They know they can’t hate on illmatic and it was written because both are flawless. I am is still a classic, but it had maybe 2 records that people could cherry pick on that weren’t strong. The other records are super dope/classic and in real time that album was major in the streets and commercially. Yes, you won’t see me tonight should have had video/push.

I Am... has always been a weird album to me. About half the album is incredible to me and it's some of Nas' best work. The other half is just there. Not the worst music I've ever heard, but I don't care to go back to it. And the sequencing falls off after the first couple songs.

Like a lot of people, I wish the album never leaked because we were robbed of something that could have been a masterpiece. I genuinely think I Am... had the chance to be better than Illmatic and It Was Written if it was a double album.

I was listening to this song last night before I even saw this post. Nobody ever brings it up, but it's one of the best songs on the album. I always loved Nas' second verse. :ahh:

Classic track for sure. This, Small World, Life Is What You Make It and Ghetto Prisoners don't get enough love these days.

It's not even the media or industry per se. His own fans are divided on "I Am..."

I love the album. It's a personal classic to me, but a lot of dudes on here hate on it. I've seen nothing but praise for it from other artists and the media.

That's the toughest album to rank to me on his discography. Kinda like vol 1 for Jay. It got some of his best tracks of his career and some duds.

I think Nas fans are more divided over the legend of what I am was SUPPOSED to be rather than what it actually turned out to be.

Most Nas fans know I am is great but are haunted if you will, by how classic it was going to be when it was conceived as a double album. This is compounded by the fact that The Lost Tapes is often considered a second holy grail of an album after Illmatic by fans and critics alike and its made up of 50% I Am leftovers.

In a big way Nas fans do the I Am era a big disservice by hailing leaks and discarded songs as the pinnacle of Nas talent when the retail has some of his best work of his career.

Yup. I know a few people in real life that had it as their fav Nas album at one point.

A groupbuy for the original No White Jesus with Frank Ocean on the hook has just been completed so expect that to be leaking onto the net really soon.
