I love that Rakim was the first NY rapper to get this. I'm sure he came to mind first for a lot of the people who put this together but in my mind this is Nas 100%. That's who a NY rapper would pick first, 10 times out of 10. Going forward it can be a debate over whether KRS or Kane etc is next but it had to start with the R.

Wow that’s the first I’m hearing about this. So every year the recipients get to pick who gets awarded the following year? That’s a dope idea and takes a lot of pressure off of guys like Nas and Stoute.

I think based on some of the stuff MC Shan said when he and Nas peaced it up that he’s next up on the list
