I've seen some journalists complain about how aspects of the 50 year anniversary was handled throughout the year, complain about corporate involvement etc but I would hope that everyone can acknowledge how important it's been to get so many legends on record for historical preservation. And getting them paid, shout outs to Nas for that btw. I hate the way "the culture" has morphed into this weird meaningless phrase many throw around to justify wack shyt they do. The entire point of culture is preserving life, customs and history to be passed on. You do that with literally everything Nas has done this year, from the concert to the museum to the paid in full gala. You do that when rappers keep the legends alive by mentioning them, interviewing them, getting them involved in shyt. I'm not an Em fan but I love how he doesn't hesitate to bringing up Rakim and others in his interviews. Stuff like that compels younger people to check shyt out. I love the way Kendrick, Cole, and even Drake constantly get fans to go back and peep legends.
