I agree I don't have Kendrick in my top ten, although he will be there eventually. But this brings up an interesting question...at what point does a rapper enter the top 10? Is it a years thing? Was Nas (or Jay) top ten by 2001? That was less than a decade from their first albums. For contrast Cole, Kendrick, and Drake released their first official albums over a decade ago. They've put more time in than Pac, Big, Nas, or Jay did by the time they started entering top 5s and top 10s.Its still bullshyt no matter HOW you spin it.
Kendrick is great but he’s nowhere NEAR Nas level in terms of…anything really. If anything he should have had Drake’s spot at number 8 but if we’re keeping it all the way real Nicki, Drake, nor Kendrick belong in the top ten quite yet. Kendrick has the best claim amongst them for top 15.
Like I said I don't have Kendrick in my top ten yet, but I'm not even sure why lol. Maybe it's that Pac/Big/Nas/Jay felt or feel like legends whereas I remember Kendrick from college and intern days. Same with Cole. But I wonder if someone was 18 years old when Illmatic came out, would they have crowned Nas by 2001 in the top 10? Would that same person crown Biggie after his death? I'd imagine so.
