Some Nas talk @ 1:21:00

Sorry Irv, I agree with the guy on the left. It Was Written is the greatest Hip Hop album of all time

Illmatic is more legendary (I mean, it's Illmatic). But It Was Written is when his pen stepped up multiple levels

I Gave you Power (the perspective of a gun), Take it in Blood, The Message, Watch Dem nikkas (Probably Nas' best song in terms of flow), Live nikka Rap, Shootouts, Silent Murder, etc.... Showed that he was a Literary Genius. That album still gives me chills :ohlawd: :ohlawd: :ohlawd:

NY all day..Da Stead & BK..
He only wants Nas spitting that gutter street corner shyt. He doesn’t like pro-black positive Nas. Says that Illmatic is the greatest debut album ever and Made You Look is the greatest rap single ever and that when Nas raps like that he’s the best
How much u wanna bet he would never put Jay in that type of box. Nas been spitting conscious shyt since IWW.

He definitely advanced lyrically from Illmatic to IWW, but musically tho imo, IWW was a drop off from Illmatic...which isn't really a serious knock since I think Illmatic is the greatest rap album ever, aint really nowhere to go but down from that.

Illmatic is the 2nd greatest album of all time, so I'm splitting hairs. But Illmatic did not have the cohesion of It Was Written. Illmatic's beats had a mixtape vibe to it, legendary producers that didn't have the chemistry. It Was Written's production were 10x more cinematic and cohesive

Can't believe God's Son is 20 years old. One of my most anticipated albums ever. I was out of school that day. My grandma was sick. After visiting her in the hospital, I went and copped the album:

1. Get Down- 5/5 Classic Nas song

2. The Cross- 3.5/5. A lot of people hate it, but this was dope to me. Nas's lyrics, flow, and delivery were crazy on this. He carried the beat.

3. Made You Look- 5/5. Another classic

4. Last Real nikka Alive- 5/5. Classic

5. Zone Out- 1/5. Never liked this song

6. Hey Nas- 3.5/5. This was dope. Kind of reminded me of Toni Braxton's "Makin Me High". It had that late 90's R&B feel. Loved the flow on this.

7. I Can- 3.5/5. This wasn't one of my favorites, but it could be considered a classic I guess. Just not something I would rush to play from this album.

8. Book Of Rhymes- 5/5. One of the most unique rap songs ever. The last verse always gets me. The sound effects of the pages turning added to the feel of this song.

9. Thugs Mansion (NY)- 3.5/5. Both Nas verses were fire especially the last one. Some people forget this had a video.

10. Mastermind- 4.5/5. Fire.

11. Warrior's Song- 3.5. Nice collabo with Alicia Keys.

12. Revolutionary Warfare- 4/5. Fire. Nuff said. I remember there was a bit of controversy over the Ghandi lines, but he also had them on "Book Of Rhymes".

13. Dance- 4.5. Came to appreciate this more with time.

14. Heaven- 5/5. One of the best songs I ever heard. Considering what was going on at the time with my grandma, this song hit hardest. This one was more of tear jerker than "Dance".

The verdict- 4.04 out of 5 or pretty much a 4. This is probably the Nas album that I've revisited most. Is it his beat? No, but it's definitely one of the best. I remember Time Magazine had this as 2002's album of the year. 20 years later, I ain't mad at it.
You think it's better than KD3?

Yeah you had legendary producers competing against each other. Compared to It Was Written being primarily led by The Trackmasters, on top of It Was Written have a defined theme, with 10x better storytelling

If he had a voice, then yeah. Beanie on songs now just sounds awful. You would think a studio could fix it with all the technology.

But, naw... it would be trash sounding
