Illmaticesco is definetly someone in Nas camp cause they been had a lot of inside info over the years and even on their IG they've posted exclusive stuff of being on set for videos and in studio when other places havent.

According to them it seems Nas is doing a run of features before KD 3 to create buzz because they arent happy with the sales ...and theres a Kendrick collabo?

also I didnt realize until I looked at the credits but the video for Rare was executive produced by Dave Free (Kendricks guy at TDE who moved to PGlang and is partnering with him on it), that along with Saleh linking up with Kendrick and that pic just before the pandemic of Nas and Kendrick together and Nas holding a PG lang paper was a clue to things.

The worst thing Nas could do is listen to his base, lol. You can get an overall sense of what they're feeling and not feeling, that's helpful...but I mean the detailed shyt like what producers they want and what features they want and what direction you need to go, etc... If you would have described the feel of KD1 to them before it dropped they woulda probably said hell no they don't want Nas on that softer/relationship type time, smh...and that shyt came out fire and won a Grammy.

His base is always gonna be there at this point, regardless of the sales I'm sure 500k people at least are always gonna check for a Nas album when it drops...what does he stand to lose by getting on a Drake joint or a Lil Baby joint? As long as its not wack...that's the tricky part...making something with the contemporary artists that fits and works.

This is weirdo shyt, I'm sorry. It took Life Is Good, an album that sold 100k+ in its first week, nearly a decade to go gold. The days of Nas going gold with new albums are over. That's just not happening without a hit record, this far into a career, in the streaming era. For an older artist whose base largely buys albums instead of streams.

I don't think NAS himself is sitting around talking about gold plaques so why would anyone else? If that was his goal he'd be doing different things. Actual album rollouts, more interviews, pushing radio records, bigger tours, festival shows, etc. Instead he's pumping out music and releasing it when he wants. That's pure love of the art, the inspiration to record and the passion to build his record label. Those seem to be his music goals right now.

The "Nas fans aren't buying the album" narrative is consistent among the runners of these Nas fan accounts (illmaticesco and godson_nas on instagram).

The people behind these pages know some info (whatever Nas' team feels comfortable sharing) but not much. Last year I asked if they knew when Nas would drop again and the person said "he's not dropping until yall support KD1 more etc..". Literally, the next day was when the KD2 info/announcement leaked. Lol

Nas and his team are not focused on sales. His last 3 albums are critically acclaimed. I'm sure that matters more to Nas (a multi millionaire) than another gold plaque at this point in his career.

There are not that many of us hardcore Nas fans. We do buy but we are not many. I buy merch which counts as a sale because they bundle album with it. I also used to buy the digital download but i just stream these days.

I figured Nas and Kendrick having Anthony Selah in common would lead to them collabing. Hell less than a year after Future hired Anthony he and Nas were on a song and they’ve no less than 4 collaborations.

As far as a feature run. I figured that would be par for the course. Nas ALWAYS does a run of features leading up to his albums and already this year he’s collaborated with Snoop and John Legend. I was kind of surprised that he didn’t jump on Tana Talk 4 seeing as him and Benny have a relationship.

I could easily see Nas on Kendrick’s new album. Kendrick originally wanted him on Good Kid M.a.a.d City. I could see Nas hop on Ghostface’s upcoming album. Maybe Pusha T’s album. Mass Appeal as a label has been quiet outside of Nas albums the past two years so maybe its time to get a new Fashawn probect, which I could see Nas on. Nas and Joey Badass were in the studio so I could see something happening with that. Sky’s the limit.

I’m actually a little surprised Nas and his team would be “unhappy” with sales seeing as Magic was a surprise release with NO single. NO video. And NO Promo whatsoever outside of social media. They didn’t even do a physical release on Nas’s website. And with all of that the album was still number 1 on itunes the entire first week of release.

The first week sales from KD1 to KD2 actually INCREASED by 10k so i’d view that in a positive light. The album was Nas’s most critically acclaimed since Life Is Good and i think it would have a bit more legs on the charts if we would have gotten videos for Store Run, No Phony Love, and 40
Side.

I don't think Nas should make anymore music

Just focus on Mass Appeal as a whole and other business ventures. Go after more Emmys and moving Black culture forward with Docs and specials

Exactly they could have pushed it now with a couple more videos of Store Run 40 Side or even the song with Em, Nas team don’t make moves of one who are overly concerned with sales, for example he would have already had the Drake J Cole Kendrick tracks in one of these albums if they were.

Going forward though I would like to see a couple of them on KD3 or at least Nas on their album.

I never cared about sales or grammys
neither reflect quality, and in reality both are just time capsules of the moment

also I honestly don't need any more music videos from Nas, I loved his videos from the 90's (still have the DVD with them all), but now they're mostly just him rapping with different backdrops, I watch them once when they drop but never feel the need to go back and see them again, I'd rather just listen to the song

the exception would be if he took a concept track and put a ton of money into it, like Queen's Wolf would've been cool if done properly, but then if it's high-budget it doesn't really make sense for him because it won't push sales that much

I did like the video for War Against Love, because it was simple, yet visual and different, and was probably very cheap to make... videos like that make sense
