Took a walk this morning and listened to the IWW re-release on the headphones. A few things that caught my attention:
Y'all ever notice Nas tells a story on almost every song on IWW? Sometimes it's a whole song, sometimes just a verse or less. I always loved the album for being so cinematic, but it stands out more in 2021 because that level of storytelling is kind of a lost art now.
In the skit before I Gave You Power, when Jungle shoots somebody and gets rid of the gun, a car drives by bumping De La Soul's Plug Tunin
I swear any other rapper would have had someone roll by playing Onyx or Cube or something like that. Nas lowkey has a funny/dark sense of humor.
On Affirmative Action AZ pronounces the G in congac
Always wondered if he did that because it works better in the rhyme or if thats just how he says it because I feel like it could go either way.
Nas Is Coming is dope as fukk and has some of the illest verses on the album.
The sequence of Suspect to Shootouts to Live nikka Rap is ridiculous and you would be hard pressed to find a better three song stretch of album cuts on any album.
Always appreciated them putting If I Ruled the World at the end of the album. It weirdly works as an outro. The end of the kinda feels like the curtains are closing.
