Pretty wild that Chuck D was so right about this, 20+ years ago. And even more wild that 20+ years removed from his major label album being impacted by leaks, his independent album (on his own label) won a Grammy. Sony/Columbia could have said "fukk it" and released I Am with all the leaks, plus the new songs, and it would have still sold 400k+.All fire sharing did was take control away from major labels and give smaller artists an easier ability to build fanbases. Since then we've slowly seen the control swing back in artist's favor. Labels aren't dead yet of course but clearly the independent game is bigger than ever.
