Alot of these magazine n shyt are white people who are obsessed with Illmatic and have no problem erasing the other shyt. Nas himself has to shine enough light on these projects. The 20th anniversaries of both IWW and I Am have came and went and Nas did nothing for them aside from posting them. With Illmatic he does tours and live shows and ballrooms and merch and documentaries and album rereleases etc etc. None of that shyt is being done for his other music.
This.
I already had the double disc 10th anniversary edition of
Illmatic. They came out with a remastered version of it in 2014 for the 20th Anniversary. I thought it was overkill. Nas is on record saying
It Was Written is one of the most creative LP's ever to hit stores, but we don't have anything to commemorate it other than replaying the album. That album's legacy is largely overlooked and I get why its overlooked and I think it's some BS. Yeah, it is more commercial and polished than
Illmatic and turned purists against Nas and people view it as the turning point in which Nas became more commercial. Still, its bogus to write IWW and Nas's other albums off in favor of showing love to
Illmatic as if showing love to his other albums takes away from
Illmatic's greatness.
I don't even think live shows and documentaries would be necessary for
It Was Written, but a repackaged album that includes:
Silent Murder
Street Dreams (Remix)
Watch Dem nikkas (Alternate version)
Street Dreams (original alternate version)
Take It In Blood (alternate version)
Sinful Living
Deja Vu (mastered)
-Unreleased songs from the
It Was Written sessions
