continued in this thread.

It's flat? Can you detail what you mean?

It's when all peaks are smashed to a certain level, they will go as loud as they need and won't stop until they hit that brickwall of a level. It leads to alot of clipping and distortion, and nothing is allowed to have it's own space. The reason this is practiced in modern albums and remasters is the notion that "Louder = Better".

OG Illmatic (1994, everything has it's own pocket, and allowed to breathe)

10th anniversary (2004, you can start to see shyt mashing together at the upper limit)

20th anniversary (just straight wyldin' now, what was once dynamic is a solid block)

If you want to hear distinct example, here's a 5 minute vid that goes over a Metallica song:

I mean, if you are just looking for an Illmatic that will match the current loudness of modern records, and don't want to worry about slight volume adjustment, the 20th will do. But if you are the type of cat who likes to zone out with a pair of good headphones and focus squarely on your music, definitely stick with the original.

IWW isn't better but I agree I wish he'd give it more attention. Even in shows, he often just does a medly of the IWW hits instead of really doing the full tracks. It's an important album and it's sound is in line with a lot of shyt that's going on now. Drake sampling Affirmative Action was a great example of how the album fits today. Rick Ross' sound is very similar to that Trackmasters stuff too. Super glossy, super over the top etc. Drake has dabbled in that style, Just Blaze has done it, etc.

Honestly, I think the reason he doesn't perform a lot of the it was written songs is because the lyrics are really deep, fast, and probably not crowd friendly in terms of being able to rap along with it. I love that album though, Take it in Blood, the set-up, the message, affirmative action, even Nas is Coming go so hard. There really aren't many albums with a similar sound overall along with prolific GOAT level lyrics.

Saw him on Friday once again

Did a deep set. Usually when I see him he dont flub lyrics but there was some slight skips of lines on songs he usually knows. But overall people seem to love it. Actually did some Life is Good (Stay, Don) joints and Verbal Intercourse and the remix of World is Yours and some Lost Tapes (No Ideas Original) which was a change

Also he flipped Halftime beat into UK rapper Giggs Talking the Hardest by verse 2 and killed it which got London mans hyped

He did a lot of different things, didnt go into If I Rule the World off Streets Dreams/Message and did Got Yourself (he did If I Rule later)

All we need is someone to attend Governor's ball on Sunday and the cypher will be complete.
