The NBA really went out to their way to make sure MJ wasnt maligned.

He was the league.
Oh I know. We are about the same age so we both lived through it basically.

I thought he meant the documentary. Makes sense now re-reading the post.

im not mad at the league. MJ to this day was the biggest guarantee in sports when on their run. We havent seen it since. But GAYDAYUM....shyt was forced at times.
Lol at the Black Bulls starter in hot ass Atlanta in high school. Everybody was cashing in.

Honestly I don’t even remember the first golf buddy they mentioned. They second with the book and then of course the Jordan Rules book but they got treated light.

So what’s the big deal about this gambling shyt

shyt you would think Mike was betting on his own games they way some of y’all carrying on

Has anyone said mike bet on games he was playing in

has anyone said Mike owed bread and couldn’t pay it ?

fukk is the big deal, dude is grown he can gamble as much as he wants.
Because one of the guys he did it with was charged, and another guy wrote a book about him being addicted. Plus going to the casino the night before and then ppl just making up the rumors about his father.

I really dont think its an issue as long as he can afford it and doesn't go broke

Can you blame Stern though? MJ was doing things for the league(and Sports in general) that had not been done previously. He had to be protected at all costs.

it’s not like today, where the NBA product is as big as ever and there’s multiple stars with Endorsment deals etc. we also didn’t have social media, to where it’s hard to hide shyt. Just recently there was allegations about Lebron cheating on his wife and it trended on Twitter. MJ was the biggest basketball player ever and it was easier to hide shyt about celebrity back then if you had a big machine to do so.

In all fairness, the league was at a weak point. Expansion era and crack era put a major damper on the late 70s/80s entries of talent with guys like Michael Ray Richardson, Melvin Tarpley, Len Bias, not living up to expectations due to drugs. The Bulls were on the upswing and it was the perfect marketing ploy. It wasn't just MJ, the league was promoting Grant Hill, Shaq, Penny, and Kobe like crazy in the 90s. In the 80s, it was about teams, the 90s was about stars and none shined brighter than Jordan
