Just recently there was allegations about Lebron cheating on his wife and it trended on Twitter. MJ was the biggest basketball player ever and it was easier to hide shyt about celebrity back then if you had a big machine to do so.

In all fairness, the league was at a weak point. Expansion era and crack era put a major damper on the late 70s/80s entries of talent with guys like Michael Ray Richardson, Melvin Tarpley, Len Bias, not living up to expectations due to drugs. The Bulls were on the upswing and it was the perfect marketing ploy. It wasn't just MJ, the league was promoting Grant Hill, Shaq, Penny, and Kobe like crazy in the 90s. In the 80s, it was about teams, the 90s was about stars and none shined brighter than Jordan
