I don't think that "rumor" has any merit. Also, as much as I love Denzel, I would not be OK with that.

*Being a (White) Jewish person (and usually a Holocaust survivor) has become a core pillar of Magneto's character and motivation.

*Denzel is in his 70s; he could only play Magneto for Doomsday & Secret Wars.

Don Cheadle is old enough to be Brie Larson's dad, so a Rhodey and Carol love story wouldn't work in the MCU (for me at least), unlike in the comics where they are close in age.
