There was three years between Batman Begins and The Dark Knight and we all know how THAT turned out.

Marvel giving Coogler the time he needs to craft a classic to a cultural landmark first film is a blessing and shows that they truly care about Black Panther and his elevated position amongst the MCU elite. With no Iron Man or Captain America there are two HUGE vacancies for the shared universe’s tentpole releases. Marvel is basically handing Coogler the keys and saying “Black Panther got next” probably alongside Captain Marvel as THE leaders of the MCU going forward. Hence the May release date.

ANYBODY complaining about the wait time doesn’t want to see Black Panther truly succeed and needs to STFU and go cry in the DC thread:camby:

Are ya'll legit excited for that tho? I loved Black Panther but his personality in his solo flick wasn't exactly bursting out of the screen. I'd say a lot of the second billed women on that movie had more personality.
And lets not get started on how off-putting Captain Marvel's personality was.

These are the heirs to Tony Stark's flashy bravado and brilliance, and Steve Rogers's earnest, every-man hero?

MCU's gonna need to step it up with the characters next phase.

It should’ve been Black Panther characters as an ensemble & Spider-Man. But with the Sony shyt spidey seems unlikely to be a leader (even if they close a deal in the future). They got to find a way to incorporate some of the Black Panther characters in other films for them to lead b/c 2022 is a long ways out. I don’t see any of the characters from Phase 4 being able to lead anything.

Yep, Black Panther has the most potential but as of right now he's a little too stoic, personality-wise, for it to really be compelling. Don't get me wrong, Steve Rogers was stoic to an extent but he had the interesting man-out-of-time twist, and he wasn't nearly as invulnerable as Black Panther. BP needs his own gimmick.

The vulnerability made Cap interesting. The scrawny boy with his fists up saying: "I can do this all day" was interesting. The fact that even tho he would get his ass kicked, he kept getting back up was interesting.

That's why I wasn't a fan of when they gave BP those overpowered energy based powers. It was unnecessary and I suspect it was just a directorial crutch to avoid having to do any dope fight-choreo like in Civil War. That triple kick against Captain America in the airport was way better than generic, purple energy blasts:

Tony Stark was a bit of a clown.

Yes i’m glad, i’m fukking ECSTATIC that we have a black man that can be at the forefront of a billion dollar cinematic universe that isn’t smiling wide, cracking corny jokes, and tap dancing with Shirley fukking Temple. Would you be asking this same question if we were talking about Batman? Who has the same type of brooding demeanor about him? No you wouldn’t because at the end of the day its a stupid fukking question. Good writing, direction, and acting can make T’Challa a GREAT onscreen hero. T’Challa has over 50 years of comic-based continuity that has seen him characterized in the vein of James Bond, King Arthur, or even Aragorn (Lord Of The Rings) heroes who were noble, masculine, intelligent, and suave. The shyt ain’t hard.

I'm glad too.

Who said he had to be that? I gave two examples of dynamic personalities. You decided to focus on one for some reason even tho I talked more about Cap. I even stated some of the black female personalities were stronger in the movie.

It's really not....you're just too sensitive to have this conversation.

Of course.
I trust in Coogler. I'll be there day one for BP2 and I hope they fix some of my minor problems with the previous movie (e.g. BP's personality being overshadowed, not enough fight choreo, bad CGI near the end). With BP's success, Marvel will invest even more in BP2. So I'm sure it'll be great. But if all the critics just got on their knees and felated BP1 like you're doing, they'd give us more of the same.

Again, I'm not saying he has to act any particular way. I actually want more well written scenes like this. Funny, interesting, and regal at the same time:

A black man having a compelling personality doesn't mean shucking and jiving. I didn't say that. That's just you projecting your insecurities.

Marvel also missed an opportunity to have T'Challa interact with Tony Stark in Civil War as well.

Hopefully they do what they did with black panther in civil war and not that bullshyt cgi fighting like at the end of bp1

I was watching a YouTube video of these CGI artists reviewing movie CGI and I think they said T’Challa vs. Killmonger part 2 looked so bad because Disney gave the artists in charge of that fight scene 6 weeks to get it done.
