Dope movie, Joaquin was spectacular.

You were watching with comic book movie goggles on and were disappointed. Shame, but that's on you.

That's like watching a movie called Egyptian God's and expecting it to star black people.

It's a comic book movie about a comic book character. He's a super villain. Did you feel threatened by this Joker? Like he would rob you or a bank; have Gotham on lock down and go toe to toe with Bats?

You must like your media formulatic as fukk if you feel this way about this movie.

“I need to see him get beat up, decide he’s going to do something about it, turn into the super villain I know and love from comics and pull off some crazy capers in 90 minutes.”

How about “he’s one of the most legendary villains of all time, littered with a blurry back story and some of the most complicated motives we’ve seen, oh and half the reason he’s so revered is that he’s fukking crazy. Let’s do a deep dive imagining of how he got started and leave you to fill in the blanks.” Instead??

Would be a good take on Joker is I didn't see the King of Comedy. But its a Frankenstein of a two films...while not bad, its nowhere near a masterpiece for me. Obviously good acting from Phoenix, but for me, I didn't need a Joker origin story, especially not one that dealt with a huge agenda like depression. Something I'm glad Nolan didn't do for either Bane or Joker.
Depression wasn’t the main issue. It is the fact that the rich can go to theatre 8 times a week while trash isn’t picked up and they cut services for the demented.

The movie was off the chain. Joaquin delivered as usual. It was refreshing to see a comic book film with so many themes and a strong plot. This film is just as grounded as "The Dark Knight Trilogy". There wasn't much CGI or visual effects (Outside of building shots or cars). It was all acting by Joaquin. Yes the plot does kind of make you sympathize with Joker's horrific backstory. He didn't just become the Joker out of nowhere, it truly was a build up of unfortunate circumstances. Doesn't make his actions right but for the first time you get a strong insight into why The Joker is actually crazy/insane. I love how the film blurred the lines of fantasy and reality. Was everything we were watching even real? He ends up in Arkham Asylum recounting everything.

I love how suspenseful it was...you didn't know when something crazy was gonna happen. Yes they bit Scorsese heavily but I also got some M. Knight vibes as well. "Unbreakable" was very grounded for a comic book style story. I did roll my eyes at the Bruce scene but you can't do a Joker movie without some connection to Batman. Poor Thomas Wayne. Him and Uncle Ben are gonna break the record for most times killed on screen, lol. Overall I think the controversy was overblown. It wasn't even that violent and there are way more violent movies. This is basically a serial killer type movie....It was a character study of the Joker as a regular person before he flips out and becomes the Joker. It's basically "Batman: Episode I - The Joker Menace" as far as it being an origin of a Legendary villain.

Considering Todd Phillips is mostly known for comedies like "Road Trip" and The Hangover Trilogy", I thought he did very well in this. Again Yes he was clearly influenced by Scorsese's aesthetic (Deniro being in it definitely added to the vibe). It had that Late 70's Early 80's New York vibe. It was shot well, acting well, good plot, themes. Focused on mental health and illness. Loved that his constant laughing was actually a disorder, gave more depth to the character. It really worked. I'm not shocked by the Box Office because fans will support serious themed comic book movies with the right story and plot. Also the budget wasn't crazy at all so this will end up with major profits without China mind you which is wild. The Average comic book movies spends well over 100 Million on budget but this was 55 Million. Everything doesn't have to be a CGI spectacle. Overall amazing origin film and it really helps you to understand the psychology of the Joker and why he's a lunatic.
