It’s ironic to me that some critics are looking at this as a far right propaganda film when it has way more far left elements. He’s off his meds because there’s no more funding for his social services. He inspires an Occupy Wall Street type movement. Thomas Wayne is depicted as this rich out of touch Donald Trump-like figure. The guys he kills that sparks everything are basically caricatures as the rich, rapey Wall Street types. But I also think it’s indicative of the horseshoe theory where at some point if you go far left or far right enough on the spectrum and share this common belief that there are bigger forces oppressing you and the only way to stop it is through extreme measures, people with opposite political ideologies end up meeting at a certain place.

As far as race though the one thing I do find frustrating with movies like these is that the reasons many people find Arthur sympathetic for, (traumatic childhood, his mental health, not having access to proper care, living in poverty everyday) are things that so many black people who turn to crime face every day. They just don’t have the luxury of getting people’s sympathy or understanding. And that’s where I see the privilege. But it seems like critics of the movie are ignoring this element in favor of the whole incel argument which again I didn’t really see outside of his speech to Deniro at the end

Wayne is like Hillary Wayne is the one who’s out of touch with the common person even calling the people who are upset clowns which they Then use to call themselves like deplorables.

I didn't like it that much. It's like a 6/10 for me brought up by the excellent last half hour or so.

The scene with Thomas Wayne and the talk show scene were the best in the movie.

Was he sharing a bed with his mother? It didn’t look like a two bedroom apartment, and there wasn’t blankets and pillows near the couch.





This pretty much summed it up for me. A couple of Wayne references, but other than that, they used the name recognition to get this film hyped.

Had it just been called Arthur, with the same plot and trailer, not set in Gotham, it wouldn’t have been as widely anticipated.

Was called Romeo during the filming up to a certain point

The movie would have ended when he came into the flat after first time the lady asked if he was following her and he said yes.

Oh and he bathed his grown able bodied mother. Hmm.

The cinematography pointing out the delusion was brilliant, ie when he is the usher in the Charlie Chaplin. Hints with the black and white films or the old school songs, show his mind has stopped there. Or does he go there for comfort.

Mad cerebral and subliminal. Where does the delusion and reality differ, or does it?

Every scene in the movie is happening and not a delusion
The only thing that is not real besides his his "girlfriend" is also his audience he tries to entertain. His psychosis was hallucinating happy people, who laugh at his jokes. That all died when Murray the talk show host, put his reality on blast for everyone to poke fun at.
He watched that talk show every night even hallucinating Murray loved him like a son
but the saddest shyt to me was knowing the truth about his child hood, i was looking at the movie like wtf is up with his body... then the facts were revealed. His psychosis was so fukked up he thought he grew up with a loving mother

Well then that's just silly cuz the only reason I was interested in this to begin with is because of Joker who we've known him as for years. This "separate from everything else" bs is just a cop out for them to not be held accountable by critics. I'm not one of those nerds that follow every headline about a movie up until it's released so I wasn't aware of what I was walking into. It's still overhyped and underwhelming even from a separate story arc standpoint.

I def appreciate the fact that your back your criticism up with solid supporting arguments.

But to be fair, even in comics they’ll stray off what’s considered canon and go an entirely different route with an established character, so I don’t think it’s a cop-out.

Also, in the original Batman movie, the age disparity between Michael Keaton and Jack Nicholson was similar to the Joker movie.

When he gets chased by the detectives toward the train station, that was 170th yet they label it as 18th Av in Brooklyn


So when the detective gets shot and Joker is dancing as he leaves, that’s Bedford Park Blvd. in the BX. You mean to tell me two detectives couldn’t find Joker on the same train between 18th Av and Bedford Park?

Other than that I fukked with Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker portrayal

great movie.

Hopefully this is a easy layup for the new Batman movie. If that movie fukk up it will have to be the biggest flop in movie history. That’s how well it setup up the new Batman to me. Joker is the best origin story ever to me. Not one scene did I have to suspend disbelief.

after thinking about how much was lost. To make this a new batman, joker. Evil batman Thomas Wayne, could be turned ras ah ghoul. You could have made the pieces for four robin stand alone movies easy. which is bones for the teen titans the highest draw at dc daily. Included in that is Damien Wayne. Who kills dikk Grayson as well. Instead,...this bullshyt ass wb. Does what they always do, and get fake props for. Give the book to some weirdo writer. who can not really write real monthly comics month to month under the comic code.
